Full size railway reference and picture thread

Post by JMORG » Thu Aug 15, 2019 8:25 pm

Hi all,
After a quick discussion on the suggestion board, I'm going to be starting a new thread for use by forum members to post their pictures and sources of information regarding full size railways. This will enable other members to use them for "inspiration" with their own modelling.
Please try and keep it as a picture and reference library and avoid turning it into a general discussion thread; other forums are available for that!

Vale of Rheidol carriage interiors. For those that aren't aware, the Vale of Rheidol is all change at the moment. One first class carriage is being completely rebuilt and will feature (what looks like) a central corridor with tables as well as proper wheelchair access. The first class carriage interior is therefore out of date but still of interest.

Currently in Florida at the moment. We managed to visit Disney and, despite the disturbing sites of the parks and the rather upsetting animal safari we managed to ride the Wildlife Express Train. For those that don't know, this is an African themed train with unusual carriages. We managed to get some snaps of the carriages and they would be ideal for those that would like something a bit "busier" in detail. They'll be up as soon as we return home this weekend.
Interestingly; the "steam" locomotives and carriages were built by Severn Lamb!

I have to admit I was unsure about this type of thread at the start, but I see it is a useful source of detailed information and is a most welcome addition to the Forum.

The forum is for any scale, any gauge.

Photographs like these are great for people who are not able to view the prototypes and so can gain understanding on how wagons fit together, loco details, etc.

Please keep the photos coming.

Thanks,

Tom

Spotted this little pair at the weekend.
Something to do with that Lister casting that you just couldn't resist buying at the last show you attended.
Or is that just me?

I just noticed I haven't got any shots of the other side, if anyone is interested I may try and get back. Although it's just the other side of the engine really.

Looks very similar to a Wrigley, a type of groundsman's vehicle used in parks etc.
Many years ago I worked as a groundsman for a municipal authority in New Zealand and we had one of these to buzz about in. Ours had a hand operated hydraulic tipping mechanism for the rear cargo tray to assist in unloading tree/grass clippings, manure etc. Quite fond of my Wrigley I was.

Brilliant photo and a great find. It must at one time be allowed on the road with having a number plate on. Wonder if it needed to have road tax also.....
