How much do they pay, are you allowed to disclose this?

I don't think it's a secret. £20 per printed page. Hard to predict how many words per pages as it depends on how many photos and how Phil arranges them. As you can see from my latest article, he likes fairly detailed captions for each photo. He edited my text into the captions, but left the intro more or less as I wrote it. The higher res photos the better. I think he prefers a minimum of 1Mb, preferably 2Mb.

Rik, did you write your article as a 2-parter or did Phil split it? I only ask because after folks on here said I ought to write up my stream, I made a start last week but its going to get awful long even without piccys!

I wrote the first one as a two-parter. If you feel it works over two parts, then you could submit it in that form and let Phil decide. Aternatively, see how it works putting the text as a series of captions to the pictures, as Phil has done with my most recent article. That depends on the photos you have, though.

Hi - go on give it a go - I was pleasantly surprised with my cheque - even though it started off in my author name (it was really a typo!) of Mark Hill - now have a cheque for my real name! Added to the funds of the CHLR ready for track purchase when I eventually buy my next house

I really enjoyed the process of writing the article and to be honest, its no harder than writing a post on here - the key thing is to remember to take photos as you go - I've just finished building Phil Sharples Little Jack kit with a some added detailing that looks great - now looking at the loco and tender sat on my desk, I'd love to write an article about how I developed it but I only have one photo part way through with me riveting the loco with our good old Nail Art solution.

Before anyone asks, I'll do a post on here soon!

PS - great article Rik - inspiration for all!

Yes - 2Mb is best - in print as compared to ont' web, bigger pixel count really matters

Just got Julys issue of GRM and I have to say what brilliant content is in it. There are a couple of articles that are really excellent, but all of the content is excellent really. The one that I enjoyed is Rob Golding's on the build of his Bayfields Light Railway. It is a fantastic read and one that has opened me up to future builds on our own line. Then there is the construction of the 'Making and Faking a Steam Engine,. Brilliant. The 3d printed Victorian train on David Viewing's (that is his name apparently) is one to read with loads of interest.

And then of course ge_riks article on his modifying of the HLW mini series wagons. This is another brilliant article on how he bashed some wagons to be even more impressive. It's the way Rik goes about doing what he does that gives me so much encouragement and hope to do something that could one day meet his excellent results.

Well done GR, it's another fantastic issue, with dare I say it, lots more on 1:19 scale. Just lately there seems to be a swing for 7/8ths. Which is good by the way, but it doesn't swing my boat I'am afraid.

Thanks for the mention, Rod. Now I see it in print, it's a bit wordy. Should have done it with more captioned photos methinks and it looks like I put the wrong caption on the lead photo as well.... Ho hummmm, fiddlededee.

BTW did you see I gave Mr Butler an honourable mention?

You probably already know this Peter but you can get it online from their web site or pocketmags.

It seems we have another absolutely brilliant article in this months Garden Rail Magazine from our own Rik Bennett.....ge_rik for those members who are not acquitted with him.

It is another well written article with some very well presented and explained photos on how he built his Loading Hoppers for Peckforton Light Railway at Bickerton...

Well done Rik....you must be on to being a millionaire now with those articles.....
