Music

Post by River Lin » Thu Apr 05, 2018 9:42 pm

Hi all.
Just read all of the recent posts on here while listening to to the Tapestry album by Carole King from around 1970. One of my college albums. What albums do other forum members listen to in their entirety from the past.
Other albums I listen to often from that era are-

Cat Stevens, Teaser and the Forecast.
Ten Years After, Stonehenge.
Paul Simon, Paul Simon. (My favourite)
Elton John, Tumbleweed Connection.
Carole King, Music.

Elton John, Madman across the water; Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player.

ELO, Eldorado

Wow. Some of those bring back memories. How about Leonard Cohen - Songs from a room and the sampler El-Pea. D.

Yes, Some good music listed here already. In my case it will always bring back memories because I haven't bought (downloaded?) anything for a long time so I've got to listen to the old stuff! Lol.

Pink Floyd - All of them but Dark Side and Division Bell are my favourites.
Roger Waters - Amused to Death
Rush - Hemispheres
I could go on.....

It appears that I am a bit of a 'prog rock' fan and most albums in this genre need to be played as a whole IMHO.

Otherwise I have a few huge playlists of tracks on spotify that are labelled Relax, Classic, Hymns, Heavy and Very Heavy.

Hi David
I think your spell checker has intervened - Teaser and the Firecat??
One of my favourite artistes of that period was Melanie with her rich husky voice. I loved (and still do) her rendition of Ruby Tuesday.

Oasis - What's the story morning glory
Thin Lizzy - Life/Live
Some Danish pop from the 80's you won't have heard of

When I work I often put on some hour long house music mixes.

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds & Holland
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream
Malcom McLaren - Duck Rock
Was not Was- What's up Dog
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Dreadzone - Little Britain
Goldfrapp - Black Cherry

I have pretty eclectic tastes, still have all my vinyl, compact cassettes and CD's, even a host of inherited 78's dating back 90 odd years. Never downloaded an MP3 yet

Recently got a new stereo vinyl copy of Pet Sounds. My old copy, first LP I bought with my own money when I was 11, was Mono. Needed upgrading !

Entire listens:
Supertramp - Crime of the century & Crisis what crisis?
Stackridge ....any of the 5 albums
David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees & Gone to Earth
China Crisis ..first 3 albums

Any of the above aid modelling yet strangely I'm more likely to listen to compilations when bridge building.

Any Al Bowlly Mr Tingewickmax? Treated myself to a gramophone when I passed my exams many years ago and have a stock of 78s as well.

Cream - any album, they were all the same! Can’t beat a ginger baker 15 minute drum solo. Saw a doco on Eric Clapton at the flicks last month, he said all the Cream era was drug induced crap, never mind I liked it.
Doors - Greatest Hits. At least all of The Late Great Jim Morrison’s excesses were edited out.
The Loved Ones - Magic Box - R.I.P. Gerry Humphreys - died destitute in London still chasing the dream.

How did I miss including Crime of the Century? Particularly like 'Rudy' - complete with railway sound effects!

Long time since I looked. My grandmother did like Al Bowley as I remember. But I have got Gracie Fields at the Holborn Empire 1933. It's a boxed set, 12" 78's. It's original. Before the local concil's censors got their blue pencils out.
