(WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Yes, I need to get the worn, used look more on my models. I always forget because I am eager to start my next build, or a build I have started months ago and left........

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Looks good Andrew! What did you use for the handle in the end?
I got two of Phil's coal waggons, they're easy to put together but the rivetting is not my favourite part!

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Hello! The brake handle is just cut from plasticard - I'm surprised that he didn't include one like he did with the beer wagon, just an oversight I guess... And yeah, the representations of rivets aren't great, but they make it easy to position nail gems!
Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
As the weather was good, we had some trains running today:
The Accucraft Baguley hauled a WHR passenger set, tailed by WHHR carriage 6: Moel Tryfan also had a WHR freight - WD wagon and slate waggons. And for some fun:

Love that shot of the single Fairlie with the slate wagons is really great. You could enter it into the photo competition.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Nice! Yes, I like the Fairlie shot too...
Is that the Timpdon Hudson toastrack? It's very nice... I've got a half-complete scratch built one that I started over ten years ago but never seem to finish. I think I might turn it into a bogie flat (like some of the real ones were, featuring in the WHR demolition train) and treat myself to a Timpdon one instead...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
It is a Timpdon one, but I added some plastikard strip to the sides and the doors to complete it. I also fitted Swift Sixteen bogies instead of the originals.
The one issue I have with it is the height - all the pictures I've seen of the FR toastrack replica show the height as roughly the same as the other WHR carriages. Not sure why that is?
I'd like to see yours Andrew, I'm sure you could finish it into a superb model!

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
I did wonder about the height... In the the well-known picture of a toastrack with 590 at Beddgelert it looks a little higher than the Pickering brake next to it, the latter in its cut down guise, of course. There were some drawings in SMT a while back which I based my one on, by Will Curry.
I'll dig mine out and have another look at it sometime...
Cheers,
Andrew

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Hmmm... Been wondering some more... Looking at the pictures here - https://www.festipedia.org.uk/wiki/Carriage_42 - and elsewhere, I think Chris Timpdon's got his proportions a little wrong. His passengers might be pleased, but I reckon he's allowed too much headroom - the gap between the top of the curved rails and the roof looks too big... If I go down the kit route I reckon I'd want to lose a plank off each end, plus the corresponding height from the roof supports, don't know how that would work in relation to how the kit goes together...
It's possible I ponder these things too much...
Andrew.
Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
I think you do an amazing job with your builds Andrew...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Here's the latest completed wagon, the last before work temporarily comes to a halt as we prepare the house for Christmas and children returning from university:
I thought I'd possibly overdone the weathering on this one, but my wife tells me it's now her favourite of my wagons, so I guess not. To be fair, I don't think her knowledge of my rolling stock collection is especially extensive (which is just as well, there's probably a lot more of it than she remembers...) but I'll take any praise I can get.
The one plank "beer" wagon was also out and about because it gained its Wood Valley Works number plates (and tare weight markings) at the same time as wagon 18, and makes quite a nice contrast in terms of condition - their livery comes from the same tin, but one's clearly been to Boston Lodge for attention rather more recently... Both have now gone into store for a while, but I think I can feel a coal train coming on in the new year, with the new open, the two WHR coal wagons and one of the D type bogie opens...
As I said, there won't be much rolling stock progress this side of Christmas, but I've got two weeks off work over the festive period, and an interesting rolling stock project lined up...
Cheers all,
Andrew.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
I think I agree with your wife ( brownie points for me?), the weathering on that wagon is very nice.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Looks excellent Andrew! Despite being MDF mr Sharples does make some good stuff! I'm making two of his Simplex locomotives at the moment and they're very easy and well thought out!
I have a Slater's Ashbury being painted for a group member, I'm basing it off of yours (but using NWNGR red). FRHG are doing a series on liveries at the moment so it'll be interesting if they do anything on the red livery.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Morning all,
They seem to be getting careless down at the carriage works, and had left the "Mystery Carriage" poking out of the shed this morning:
There's clearly progress being made, but something's not quite right... Those windows are the right size and shape for Welsh Highland carriages - but they're in the wrong order! Is that why the works staff are being so secretive? Are they just embarrassed because they've misread the plans?!
More news as I get it...
Andrew.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Dunno, but if they've got enough muscle to stretch that laccy band right round the coach, then I ain't asking!
Philip
Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Yep, that's why I've never dared to venture into the shed!
Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
It's a miracle they got it poking out of the shed, it's very close to the top of the door frame....
Bit of magic done there one feels hey Andrew..
