Brandbright coach paint schemes

Hey all! This is my first post, as I just joined. Though I live in the USA, my garden railway interests lean more towards the British Narrow Gauge than American standard gauge. (I am even building a 7.25" gauge Sweet William steam locomotive, but that is a separate issue). Though I have scratchbuilt or kitbashed some cheap toy trains to look more like British narrow gauge cars, I want to build some Brandbright panel coaches to go with a brand new Roundhouse Lady Anne that I have on order (which sadly won't be delivered until 12/2020, so I have time). I ordered the engine in maroon, so I would like to paint the coaches to match.

That being said, I was wondering if you guys had any pictures of your completed panel coaches to share. Perhaps behind a Lady Anne so I could get an idea of how they work together size wise. Any color scheme, as I would love to see your creativity.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome.

If you can start a thread on your 'Sweet William' build I would be interested as I have a 'Sweet Pea' that I am finishing:

Hi Scooby,
firstly welcome to the Forum, I hope we can assist you with your projects in the future when you receive your 'Lady Anne', in the meantime I can offer some pictures of my own panel coaches which might be useful to you?
I don't do live steam so can't show Roundhouse locos but the coaches are made mainly from kits from UK manufacturers.
Some from 'Lineside Hut'...... (finished
mainly in maroon!)

There are many UK manufacturers supplying laser-cut coach kits and all can result in fine models with careful construction.
Keep us posted on your builds.

Welcome Scooby. You will learn a lot from Peter, I have. He is one of the best on the forum. There are other's and they also do brilliant work.

Always ask mate, never feel has you are on your own. Members are always willing to help.

I have a RH Billy, that I bought off Peter and I am very happy with it.

This is my "Billy" which will have a new name when I get around to putting it on.

A pair of my Timpdon 3 compartment coaches (with GRS lamp-tops) behind a RH Jennie.

A rather poor picture I'm afraid, it's too miserable to head down the garden!

Thanks for the pictures!

By the way, for those interested in my Sweet William engine, the build log for that is here: http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/vie ... hp?t=95665

How about a picture of Brandbright coaches being pulled by a maroon Lady Anne?! :D

I chose to use a brown exterior stain on my coaches rather than paint. The livery is sort of a cross between LNER teaks and GWR chocolate and cream. I think it looks good, but I'm biased...!

Here is my one completed Brandbright coach, with my maroon "Billy". It's not Roundhouse maroon though, it's "Wild Raspberry" Tremclad enamel rust-paint from a spray-bomb. I've been told it's pretty close to the Roundhouse colour but I've never had the chance to compare them. I painted the locomotive (I assembled it myself from Roundhouse kits) and coach from the same can, which is why they match so well. Ha ha. Tremclad is a Canadian brand of enamel paint and I haven't seen that particular colour in the shop for a while now. I live in a small town though so that might not mean anything. Anyway you might be able to find a colour in an American brand that is a pretty close match.

Beautiful paint job on the coach Keith, maroon and cream always looks sort of regal, very fitting.

You would hardly tell the difference Keith. It looks great behind your Billy. :thumbright:

Love the toolbox on her. I will have to try and source one for my Billy now.

For those who have built these kits, once you have the inner liner/wall painted (white or cream, I would assume) how well do the multiple layers stick together when you glue them/laminate them?

I just use a scriber to scratch the painted surface under the contact point, then simply use PVA. I did forget once and the side hasn't fallen apart!

I attach all of the overlays, after painting, with Canopy Adhesive, which designed for aircraft models. It is a rubberised adhesive which dries quickly and is clear when set. It can be removed with water if it is in the wrong place and leaves no marks. Brilliant stuff!
