we had a friends and family day at our miniature railway the other day. My mate assisted my battery loco up the bank with his crutches (broke his foot!) when the battery died!

Arm power is a realistic way of powering larger scales but would be problematic on 32mm and 45mm due to scaling issues but when track testing in these gauges non mounted arm power has been applied to wagons to facilitate movement.
