Vertical boiler loco with a HGLW chassis

Post by Vallon » Sun Jun 01, 2014 5:48 pm

Hello there !
I tried to build a vertical boiler steam loco, but maybe it's just junk on wheels...
A good painting could give a better look...
My biggest hammer is ready to destroy it...just in case !
All your advices are welcome.

I'd say your 90% there, just hold back the hammer for the last 10%, it's looking good.

Spray it all with grey primer and you'll see it for its shape not the sum of parts. Looks good.

The basic shape is there, but still room for a few more details if you want. I'd leave the hammer for the moment...... (it looks to me like it be finished in a Peter Jones style, he was always great at making battery outline steam locos that didn't have much on them but always looked atmospheric)
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Many thanks for your kind comments. :D
I still have a lot of work to do. It's just the beginning and it's my first locomotive built from scratch on a 4wd HGLW chassis.

Hi Chris,

Take a look at the photos here for inspiration http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaloner_(locomotive)

I really hate what I've done. It's only junk on wheels.
So I kept the driver, this very good HGLW chassis and the buffer beams.
Then I dumped all the junk in the trash bin.
Sorry, but this is the end.
That's all folks !

That was a bit harsh. You should have tried painting if first. It is amazing how paint can bring a model together.

Of course it was a bit harsh ! But I'm better with a hammer than any other tool.

The Garden Railway Forum is a great forum.
It's very friendly and I really like to read all your threads.
But I made a big mistake.
Every time I tried to build something, I failed.
All I got is a full box of junk !
My last thread about my vertical boiler steam loco is a complete disaster.
Many thanks for all your advices and your patience.
That's the reason why I must leave the Garden Railway Forum.
See you soon !

I don't understand why you broke it up, I thought it looked great and really liked it. You were showing some excellent modelling skills and it would have looked brilliant painted pulling a couple of skip or slate wagons.
Thanks
Jack
