Anybody here operate vintage gauge one live steam?

Post by artfull dodger » Sun Jul 10, 2022 4:46 am

I am planning on buying an old Bing for Bassett Lowke LMS Compound #1000 as its one of the few that will gauge one engines that will tollerate my less that perfect track work and LGB track/switches with its tinplate style flanges and wheel treads. But....how do they run? I have seen pics of one running in the G1MRA magazine but cannot find any videos or reports on how well they run. It is a pot boiler, but looks much better shielded from the breeze than the O gauge BL steamers are. Its between it an a Claud Hamilton that another dealer has, that while internally fired. I do not know who built it or how well built it is, just that it looks nice and runs nice for now according to the dealer. Part of my likes the simple nature of the vintage stuff, the deeper flanges, hence less prone to derailment. But I dont want to spend a sizeable amount of $$ on a shelf queen either. Yes I know my way around the O gauge BL steamers very well, so running vintage stuff isnt new to me.
Silly NT's.....I have Asperger's Syndrome!
