My Merlin SLR #85 Hunslet

Post by artfull dodger » Wed Oct 13, 2021 6:27 pm

Picked this up from Anything Narrow Gauge, well FedEx brought it to me in the USA. Nice old early production Merlin(works number 74) SLR/W&L Hunslet. According to Simon, it was personally delivered by Mr Cooper to the customer, where it then sat under his workbench for a couple decades. The customer never ran it according to Simon, so its last run prior to being tested at ANG was way back in the early 1980's. No wear, just oil staining on the rods and a bit stiff having never been run in really well. Did have the sight glass plugged up with limescale, which has sense been taken apart and cleaned out so it works again. I am missing one of the side frame castings for the pony truck, hence the plain brass showing. Steams excellent other than stiffness from sitting for so many years. Mike
