Roundhouse Taliesin

Post by MRail » Tue Dec 11, 2018 12:11 pm

Hello All, Just back after lengthy absence.
Of course, only because I have a question...

Does anybody have experience of dismantling/fettling RH Taliesin inside valve gear?

The loco had a problem in it's second year, repaired under warranty.
RH said a locking pin had backed off the die block and jammed the levers.

It now has rather similar symptoms, but out of warranty RH don't want to know.
Their legendary logistical back up seems to have failed me.
I want to investigate it before sending away to a service agent, as they suggest.

The answer to your question is: Yes, I do, and Merseyside is only two hours away from here.

Tony, yes that's true, but...
I was hoping for tips.
OK, professional is better, but I understand you have a heavy workload.

Yes, I do have a full bench and order book at the moment BUT there is always time to do (hopefully) quick fixes like the one you describe. I'd be happy to involve you in the work too, BUT the loco needs to be here to diagnose the fault.

If you just want a tip, make sure the exhaust pipe is still in its correct place. That's as good as it can get without seeing it.
