Accucraft Edrig Radio Control

Post by RSB » Sun Jan 09, 2011 8:02 pm

I have a Edrig, which as we speak is manual control, is there a "off the shelf" kit for radio control, that I can fit to it?

I see on the frames under the footplate there is a cut out for a switch, so I guess the receiver would live?

Hope someone can help

Cheers

Rob

i dont think theres an off the shelf kit that enables an edrig to be converted, but some companies/ people do offer services to covert it for you. chuffed 2 bits, ACME,  and i think a couple of members on ehre offer that kind of service.

Normally Edrigs only have the reverser rc'd, which acts as a regulartor and reverser,  the servo is mounted in the side tank, a link arm from the servo to the reverser, whic already has a hole in it for an arm,   and as you said, the reciever, switches and batterys in the box under the loco.

It shouldnt be to hard to nock up at home if you if you have a few tools. and can eb done from a typical RC pack

Rob, my S/H Edrig came with a retro fitted R/C on the regulator.
I added my own R/C to the reverser.
The switch and batteries go under the cab, as you mention.
The reverser servo goes in the RH side tank, holes are pre-drilled.
Wiring is fed through various holes down to the switch.
The operating rod goes to the reverser lever - there may be a hole already drilled - you need to remove the centering notch spring.
In my case, the regulator servo is glued to the cab floor.
A suitable regulator arm is made by Chuffed2bits.

As yet I have no means of sending pics.

RC fitting in an edrig is fairly simple. With such large side tanks there is plenty of hiding space. As andy says I can offer the service to do this converison, or offer my help and advice should you fit it yourself

Ahem, thanks for the non-plug, Rob. After all the favours I've done you as well. GRIN.

Radio control fitting and bits are available from me at ACME Engineering, including the aforesaid regulator servo arm.

Any rumour of our demise is wildly exaggerated. We designed the Accucraft RC systems and started working closely with them when they started as Marches Models.

When I first started fitting RC to Accuraft engines in 2001, I also made available a DIY fitting kit. The problem was that despite assurances from buyers that they had a degree of competence in working on engines, the reality was totally different. I found that the level of support they needed meant that it was uneconomical to continue.
