Water gushing from smokebox ?

Post by Richie » Wed May 13, 2020 2:53 pm

Hi all

Please help.

I have just installed a RWM Janet boiler into my Mamod and have a Dreamsteam burner which worked flawlesly when I had the old Mamod boiler.

Unfortunately with the new boiler it takes over 12 to 13 mins to raise steam and when I engage forward and open the regulator a large dump of water comes from out underneathe the smoke box !

My assumption is that in the 12 to 13 mins it takes to raise steam excess water vapour/steam is collecting somewhere and builds up until I engage forwards, it will then drop steam pressure and stop going forwards. I have a RWM Janet burner on order as I think it may be more suitable for the boiler its trying to heat.

Can anyone shed light on this please as I'm baffled.

Cheers

Richie

Well, Richie, it's certainly baffling!
There's really nowhere for water/steam to collect, other than the top of the boiler.
Is it over filled?
Otherwise it's possible the steam pipe has become detached from the reverser block, under the smokebox.

Thanks for the suggestions Rob, these are things I have checked, steam pipes secure and I have removed over 30ml of water from a full boiler so its not over full. Odd !

I have new Fowler (Factory built), and when pressure is raised, on opening the regulator I get water from below the smoke box, however once it's run (slowly) for about 30 cms, the water stops. As mine has done this since new, I thought it normal behaviour, and just condensation from the motion being ejected - it would seem not.
