Add radio Control to Roundhouse Katie

Post by sjrixon » Mon Mar 23, 2020 8:32 am

Morning all..

After a lot of going backwards and forward, I'm looking to get my first steam loco. How difficult is it to fit radio control to a Katie?

I've found Dream Steam do the RC kit, https://www.dreamsteam.co.uk/roundhouse ... rckit.html - But I assume that's bits of metal to fit in. Then I need the RC bits. In normal times I could pop to my local 16mm group and get help..

Any help would be appreciated.. I'm fairly handy, but I've not done much metal work.

Hi Scott,

Talk to Roundhouse, they will supply you with the HBK12 kit that you need to get your Katie running with R/C although you can choose whatever radio gear you want (I am a Deltang fan myself).

The most important part of this kit is changing out the regulator for the R/C type.

If you don't fancy doing this yourself I am happy to do it if you supply parts and pay for postage (I don't charge labour).

Any questions, fire away.

Tom

How do you change out the regulator? Simple ish job?

The R/C is unknown, but I've installed a Deltang in my PDF Hunslet. That was quite easy, but I've not played with a servo setup yet!
