got home from work today and the stuff seams to of guled on rather well so the hole building had another coat of pva and more stone added .im not too sure what colour im going to paint it yet?.when I do paint it I think I may have to give it a very thin coat so I don't lose the effect of the stone .

I will add more stones and more glue later tonight if this drys .the layers and layers of glue really do make the building very very strong and its quite unbelievable how heavy the building starts to get .the garage is going to have a car sales area ,petrol pumps ,etc iv been looking and iv found a tow truck and I will have an area where cars are being repaired

Jim,

The colour as it is now looks a pretty good match for weathered stucco to me, maybe you will get away without paint at all!

It's another great effort, I look forward to seeing the finished structure.

all the best,

Andrew

The stone effect works well.

You can't beat how great real world materials look for model buildings :)

You must be running out of room soon! Looks like this will be another great addition. Have you got a town plan?

I think I would paint it a flat white. It seems to me I've seen real buildings with an exterior texture like this and they were always whitewashed. It wouldn't matter if it softened the texture a little, because of course dozens of coats of whitewash over the years in real life would have the same effect on a full-size building. In Upper Canada there are lots of old buildings, many of them are now garages, from the 19th century which were lime stucco over field-stone, and looked somewhat like what yours would look like with a good coat of white paint, maybe with some larger chips of rock on the corners to look like some of the stones poking through the lime.

I´ve tried both leaving things as they are (budgie grit) but stuck to a background of grey-ish paint, and painting over it in white wash (tho you may need more "white" than you might think. Everything depends on how far away the building is seen from. It looks totally different - at least to my eyes - from around a metre of so, and you don´t need to worry about the "holes". The closer to the viewer, the finer the "rock" needs to me, in my experience. I´ve even used aquarium sand to get a good coating of fine particles.

Very impressed Jim! You do work quickly and still manage to produce good models. I like the rough-cast finish, it is most convincing.

That looks great- just like whitewashed lime mortar over stone. That will look good in the garden.
