Now got another two wagons completed. . .
I've tweaked the design slightly as I've progressed. .
Quite happy if there is slight variation between the wagons as those on the Snailbeach were far from uniform.

I've now cut and shaped the components for the remaining five wagons, so these ought to go together a bit more quickly (famous last words?).

Purely and simply because I had a can and a half of grey primer in the cupboard and only half a can of red. I decided fate was trying to tell me something.

Just a quick update on progress.
I've now completed the structures for the chassis and bodies for the remaining five hoppers. .
I am slowly and steadily adding the rivets. Just worked out there are 172 rivets on each wagon! .
I'm using nail art half round pearls (thanks to markoteal of this parish). I've discovered that not all 1mm pearls are equal - but at 98p per thousand I'm not too worried, just use a different supplier. The technique I'm using to apply them is to put spots of superglue at the desired locations with a cocktail stick (I do around ten dots at a go) and then pick up the pearl using the residue of glue on the end of the stick. I find the larger spot of glue on the model sufficient to entice the pearl off the end of the stick. It's even possible to pick up an inverted pearl and flip it as it's applied. Getting quite a production line going..... .

I had considered modelling the hinges and a release mechanism for the doors, but as you say, it wouldn't really be seen. Besides, I couldn't find any info about the doors.

I still have to add brake gear, but will mass produce this at a later date, probably using bits of brass.

I really admire your patience Rik! Might give your gem applying technique a go some time - I use the tip of a knife blade to apply 'em, which works OK but is a bit fiddly.

The wagons are looking marvellous, well done!

Well, 1376 rivets later and all nine wagons are now on the rails. Need to add couplings and think about removable sand loads, but it looks like traffic to and from the sand quarry will be able to commence at the next running session. .
Will take a few more pictures when the rake is fully finished and up and running. The light is getting a bit poor outside for now.

Have been thinking about some sort of loading hopper/gantry/bin at the sand quarry siding. There's always something to do, ain't there?

The do look very business-like, given loads and the correct setting they will be a great addition to the fleet.

Now finished them off - though they will need to be weathered in my time-honoured way. Took them outside for a test run before the weather breaks tomorrow.
