All Stations on the Sandstone & Termite

Post by gregh » Sun Apr 05, 2020 4:44 am

For the first time in many weeks I got motivated enough to run a couple of small trains.
I didn't even open all of Melaleuca's leaf screens - just cleared enough track of leaves to run from Termite to Melaleuca and back.

Ditto. I agree that sometimes it's good to run a reduced service just to get something up and running 😊

Definitely!

Lovely locos and stock too. The chunky, functional little diesels reminded me of my first ever model loco, the Triang dock shunter:

I quite fancy making a 16mm-ish version one day...

Anyway, thanks for the film, hope to see more soon.

Cheers,

Andrew.

That was my first 'proper' loco too. I saved up my pocket money to buy it. I think it was around 30 Bob.

Nice little video Greg, thanks.
I'm interested in your 'leaf screens', don't think I've seen a reference to them before? What they do is pretty obvious but how they do it is another question?

On the raised baseboard sections, I use 'shade cloth' to cover the tracks. I presume you have such stuff in the UK.

here's a pic of Melaleuca.

This part of a video I posted a couple of weeks back, shows them at Melaleuca (attached at back) and Ti-Tree (attached at front). The ones attached at front are easier to flip on and off, but the baseboard must be higher than it is wide. This is not the case at Melaleuca, but it means when I've finished a run, I have to go around the back to flip them back on.

I originally tried using plastic but it got too wet and/or hot underneath. The shade cloth still keeps it a bit damp, but does allow it track to dry out. If I don't use for a while and it is rainy, the moss can actually grow into the shade cloth!

Thanks Greg, most informative and a fab overview of the line as it was then. Somehow I missed this one when you posted it before - my loss!

Maybe we need a new Topic - "Show us your first model train" ?

I still have mine so a new topic sounds good.
