Re: eBay madness
Some of the prices realised by the Abbott collection recently blew my mind, especially given that it was listed with a private auctioneer who adds ~25% in fees on top of the hammer price.
Granted, proceeds were going to the Welshpool & Llanfair railway, so maybe people felt generous in light of the good cause, but still, my pockets weren't deep enough at those prices.

My pockets aren't deep enough full stop......
Still I do try and give to heritage lines what I can, especially the Vale of Rheidol Railway, even if it's only a couple of pounds. There is a seller or there used to be on eBay that if you bought from them, some proceeds went to the railway.

Re: eBay madness
One12Models was a sole trader set up in 2017/8 to sell small batches of kits of models that he had primarily made for family members.
He had a Facebook page (now closed) and a basic website for ordering & downloading the instructions (also now closed).
https://web.archive.org/web/20180902102 ... els.co.uk/
After a few attempts at searching Farcebook I've found you a photo of the original FR open wagon 19 kit that his brother built.
These are high detailed kits.

Re: eBay madness
Thanks Chris, Yes that is indeed quality, obviously made by another small operation that was largely ignored because it wasn't by a 'mainstream' manufacturer until they were no longer available.

Yes, thanks Chris. Shame that he has needed to close his sites.

Re: eBay madness
What would be a fair price I wonder? It's a sought after and collectable loco with a professional paint job by a highly respected 16 miller but I've not seen one sell for a long time to compare it to.
Re: eBay madness
As with all "supply and demand" items what a genuine buyer is willing to pay, or with an auction what the highest of two bidders is willing to pay.
Re: eBay madness
Mmmm, I don't do this hobby to be a collector though. I do it to enjoy the hobby, building models and running (When it's possible) locos.
I would be scared stiff of running that loco at Β£2,400 with no remote....The horror to see it fall off the tracks, like they do if people are honest when they run theirs....
Still everyone to their own and if someone what's to spend that kind of money, that's ok with me...

Re: eBay madness
Itβs worth remember this is also the original Blanche/Linda model as opposed to the more common Charles that they re-released. I know this loco personally and itβs is in excellent condition, spending a lot of time in a display case. I also know of the tendered version of this loco (unlined) selling for similar money recently.
Thanks
Jack

Re: eBay madness
Rod mentioned that this particular Blanche does not have radio control. That can be quickly and easily remedied without much further outlay.
Another factor that has to be considered is the lining, in that it has been lined! Geoff Munday's recent retirement from LightLine has created, I feel, a bit of a bottleneck with regards to getting locos lined. Certainly I have had a more than normal number of requests to line locos recently, and I suspect the others who do it professionally are in the same situation.
This would be the ideal loco for somebody who wants a lined one ... now!
