Beyer Peacock 0-6-0T (822) 'The Earl' - Scratch Built? or Kit?

I have recently purchase this engine along with some other items and wondered what you make of it? It's clearly a model of the Beyer Peacock 0-6-0T no. 1 (822) 'The Earl'. It's a steam outline electric but it doesn't have any 'innards' :D

The motion looks good and it actually works very well. The center wheels are flangeless. The loco is of all metal construction and the body work has been soldered and painted. The brass parts do need a good clean. It's actually got a nice level of detail but looks a bit rough in 'as-received' condition.

Any ideas if this was a kit built or something like that? If it is a scratch built then the person did a lovely job and it must have been quite something when it was first out running on the tracks. Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

It looks a nice, hefty engine.
I can't think of any kits for this engine, I would think it is scratch built.

The rivetting definitely looks home made with a centre punch or similar. Not sure about the chassis, though. That valve gear reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on exactly what, I'm afraid.

Plenty of room for a smoke generator in this loco

Funny you should say that, it does look a little Basset Lowke mogulish to me as do the cylinders.

Looks like a home build to me, but would make an excellent project ;)

I started to do a bit of work on the engine but then had a change of heart and decided to sell it on. I'm sure it will be put into running order by the new owner who was very happy with it.

I watched its progress on the sales site and was impressed by the determination of the successful bidder. I'm sure it has found a good home and we might well see it again some time?
