Just echo J0hn's post. when I looked in Hobbycraft, the board they had was the paper faced variety, with a lighter density foam filling. This, however, is the pukka stuff, available in varying thicknesses and colour.
Thanks Phil… :thumbright:

Having worked out how to fit these bits in, I am able to work out the length of the last bit of the retaining wall which I will now manufacture.

It’s looking very effective with the Viaduct John.

I’ve not been keeping up with what has been happening on the FBGR for the past few weeks, so I’d better try and catch up.

The remaining piece of the retaining wall has been made and fitted.

It all looks a bit clinical at the moment, but hopefully it will look better when some more bits are (eventually) added around it.

The point on the station run-round, with its short siding/head shunt, has been removed and replaced with a curved bit of track.

This point was inserted into the engine shed second road to provide for a new siding onto the newly redecked (in plastic) section.

You may also notice that the areas between the engine shed sidings and the main line has been filled. I’m quite pleased with the look of the areas done between the tracks and the retaining wall and will continue with this in other places.

At the moment the new siding is bare onto the plastic decking.

There has been a long term plan to have a sawmill somewhere on the FBGR, so this may be the place.

On the timber decked section, the cross-over between loops, a little bush that grew into a big bush has been removed and the South fence sections have been refurbished with hairy grass, as has the section between the tracks where the Section House sits.

Work is continuing on the drop-in bridge abutments, but I don’t seem to have a photo of this at present.

Lots to do, with refurbishing some of the older covered decking area round the station (the new stuff looks so much better), extending this to cover other areas and finishing off the bridges that had to be hacked about when the plastic decking area was laid.

Neat work as always John, how did you build the fence? Is it wood or foamboard? Looks good.

Thank you bazzer42.

The fence posts are foamboard, the rails are plasticard. I do put a plasicard dowel (about 1mm dia) in the connections, just for a bit of added strength. I tend to use no timber on anything now-a-days.
The sleeper fence (page 8 27 March) was mostly foamboard, with just the ‘rails’ fabricated in plasticard.

A few more things this time.

The area in front of the station has been re-done. There are some new surfaces and effects – I have not done a road surface like this before, and the flowers came out better than I had feared.

Also

Another corner of the (lift out) path bridge (the South Western) has been done. (Left in this picture).

Also

In doing some of the paving areas, to break up ‘boring’ bits, I have inserted what would appear to be the remains of an earlier structure. This would be just an old concrete base with a couple of rusty bits of ironwork sticking out. In a couple of these places I have made these things removable, and done an alternative feature, generally one that would not stay out in the weather, but only got out for special occasions.
The first one is a ‘FBGR’ sign, and the second is a lamp-post.

All very impressive... hard to believe those items stay outside in a variety of conditions without suffering more damage. The detail is just wonderful.

Today, another Tuesday, another bit added.

The two very old panels in front of the Station building have been replaced.

This week I have been able to complete the last bit of retaining wall abutment to the path (lift out) bridge.
DSCF4862.jpg
DSCF4862.jpg (376.4 KiB) Viewed 9530 times
Also I took down the unfinnished boards for the next bit of decking re-covering to check on fit and levels.

Also the station platform was now looking a bit shabby compared with the new adjacent shrubbery, so one section of this has been removed and taken home for repainting.

4 July 2018

More panels of decking completed, slowly creeping to fill another area between the tracks. The Level Crossing is started to be laid out to fit in the remaining space. Opportunity was taken to refurbish (repaint) the station platforms.

Great progress and imaginative and effective use of foamboard. It's really versatile stuff, isn't it?

The hot sun has caused some of the foamboard panels that were painted a dark colour to deform a little, but not a lot, and the odd extra screw here and there seems to hold most of the movement.

It’s getting more and more impressive. The heat won’t always be this bad…..hopefully.
