Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

What is expensive ? Hard for me to answer... [/b] I was hoping you'd indicate the price you've paid for these beauties so that we can all individually decide whether it is something for us as well (we all have different pain treshhold  ), but if you cannot (or do not want to) go public wit...

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

These castings are excellent :thumbright:
How prohibitively expensive are they?
Do you have to make shrinkage allowances in your CAD model or does Mike do it?
What other materials apart from white bronze can he produce these castings?

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet

It turned out to be rather pleasurable Graeme :D The parting was aided by syringing-in cutting oil using the trusty lubricator draining syringe. And, with an 18tpi hacksaw blade, the 1" was easy to cut, again with cutting oil.... +1 on that :thumbleft: I cut all my wheels with hacksaw and it's...

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

I am referring to the same document, but I haven't got the latest version (mine is 2006), so it might be that it has changed...
Section 2.5 (in 2006 version) is Coal Fired Boilers

Yes, I am aware about the moves to create separate code.

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

...For clarity, to which boiler code are you referring? in UK - The Boiler Test Code 2018: 6.5 Boiler water feed arrangements shall be by at least two independent means (two of each, or a combination of, hand pump, injector, mechanical pump, etc.). A single boiler inlet with two check valves is acc...

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

Yes, just been through Riverdale webpage. The arguments (with which I totally agree) against the use of axle pump are very well explained by Brian Wilson in this August 2014 article in "16mm Today" magazine: https://www.riverdale-loco.com/Today.pdf So I guess, you are right - it is accepta...

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

...There were articles in AME magazine in 2017, they did thermal modeling of what happens in a coal fired wet leg boiler when run dry ...I saw this in action on the loco at my local ME club run... How does it square with the boiler code which requires you to have two independent sources of feedwate...

Re: Servo jitter and crosstalk

...I have now tested with a servo tester ... and the jitter isn't there; can't see a way of testing for the crosstalk, but the rx is starting to look very much like the culprit.... Yes, I think you have narrowed down the problem. If it was servo problem it would also be a problem with servo tester....

Re: Servo jitter and crosstalk

Have you done anything to the RX antenna? Does it happen with servos and receiver just connected on the bench (i.e. outside of the loco). It's not likely to be faulty servo. It is not a normal behaviour. It matters - if it is that bad with transmitter only few feet away from the receiver, imagine wh...

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

You are doing such a nice job, put a grate in and burn the black stuff. Thank you. I would like to do it indeed :thumbright: but this particular model would need too much butchery to rear of the cab to permit easy access for the shovel. Plus, adding axle pump at this stage would be a bit of PITA I ...

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

Sounds like I got away with it  Cleaned axle holes in the wheels with wet & dry, soaked the wheels in acetone for two days, put them in a dishwasher and after preparing them as normal loctited using Loctite 638. Job done - they are solid  Next is the rear trailing pony truck, t...
