There are some magnificent beasts there but finding a way to narrow gauge them to 2ft. might be a problem. Perhaps that's why I haven't tried before?

Re: Marc Horovitz is Wrong. (IMO)
Wonderful news that the loco survives today, I have read the article and will do more research on it now, so thank you for the information!
I still have doubts it will make an appearance in model form, but it is a definite maybe.

Ironic that following a tragic fire the real coal model could be the only survivor!

Re: Merry Christmas
Thank you Graeme, that is a kind thought and a lovely traditional image. Communication around the world now is so fast it shows how far advanced in time you are from us here in UK. We still have more than 24 hours to go before Christmas Day arrives here but the message is well received and much appr...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
As part of my railway collection I have a real coal model of Stephenson's Rocket. I'm confident it would burn but cost more than a whole bag of the raw material.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
You can't beat real coal in a bunker Peter... :thumbright: I always use real coal but we no longer have multi-fuel fires at home so have to 'borrow' a lump from my son, who buys it for his workshop. I was astonished at the price he had to pay for a bag recently, having been away from the market for...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
It would be a pleasure to see you here again Rik. Hard to believe but four years have gone by since your last visit and there are just a few new items of stock to add to your film library. I often revisit your first BURPS video and am so proud of the way it was filmed and edited to make the railway ...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Still adding bits and pieces to the Garratt. Whilst watching the short video previously mentioned above, it became obvious I had missed something quite important, the air cylinders for braking! These are now fitted to both sides of the chassis... 100_0689.JPG The additional weight on the front power...

Somewhere I have seen a colour illustration of that loco, so in theory it might be possible to copy and print 'wallpaper'? I still think it is a step too far to build one, and besides that, my Viceroy has retired!

Re: Marc Horovitz is Wrong. (IMO)
I wonder if it's some kind of inspection vehicle, with the passenger compartment being for the crew. My guess would be for transporting the Chief Inspector and/or important guests of a fairly modest railway. A little further up the scale of importance would be the Viceroy of India during Victorian ...

I love it Miles, especially the curtains! So, is it a 0-4-2 or a 2-4-0?... Which end is the front?

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Timing!!!!! Having already completed the Garratt I have just discovered this short, but interesting video, showing lots of detail on a East African Garratt. A much bigger and more impressive locomotive than mine, but showing detail of additional components which I might be tempted to add... https://...

Well, I'm really grateful for all your kind and generous comments, however, I must bow before the likes of Rik, LNR, Aaron, Dazza and other wonderful contributors to the Forum. The amount of skill shown by so many here is truly inspirational. I have to admit to being well pleased with the Garratt, i...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
All pretty much assembled now following a fairly traumatic evening yesterday when I finally plucked up courage to install the wiring. It was a little more complex (for me) trying to work out how to connect two separate battery packs in series, one in the water tank and one in the tender, and conceal...
