Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hello! I know what you mean about the sheen Philip, although I'm not entirely sure what the cause (or cure!) is... They have been tricky to photograph, particularly when the light's in the wrong place, which account for part of it, and the cheap Poundland primer might be partly responsible? I think ...

Re: Tom's station building

Hi folks, Having completed a few details and undertaken a little filling and sanding, yesterday evening it was finally dry and warm enough to start painting. It was a little windy in my favoured spraying position on the front path, and I only narrowly avoided spraying both my trousers and the car, b...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hello again, The tippers continue to progress... The first coat of vinegar dried very quickly due to a combination of sunshine and breeze, leaving slightly odd "tide mark" patterns in places. I remembered that Rob Bennet had suggested letting the vinegar dry in a damp environment, so yeste...

Very nice - love the red rods! What a bargain too! It'll look great double-heading with your other one... By the way, meant to say how much I liked your diesel repaints, wasn't online much at the time but was very impressed. Looking forward to photos ofyour fleet in action over the spring/summer... ...

That's a big improvement from how they started off :thumbright: . Just a thought: you could try a wash of orange/brown paint if you can't get any more rust? Loving the overgrown track! George Thanks George! Yes, I think I'll add a wash to some of the bits that are still too clean - I'll probably ro...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hello again, I seem to have reached "peak vinegar" with this, in that no matter how much I spray on the result doesn't really change. The tipper currently looks like this: Rusty skip 3.jpg I'm fairly pleased with it, but would still like a bit more orange in the rust, so it's currently par...

That's looking great! Very nicely made, and a convincing "might have been" too - to my un-tutored eye anyway!

Looking forward to further progress reports...

All the best,

Andrew.

I am pleased to report that the PLR is generally in good order for a Light Railway and recommend that, with a few minor provisos, it be allowed to continue serving the needs of its local populace.
Absolutely! An excellent report - thank you Mr Spectre, and thank you Rik!

Cheers,

Andrew.

Re: Rolling Stock for the Far End Tramway

Ah yes, I've got one of those early Brandbright carriages with card overlays. I was 16 when I first built it, and I probably did a pretty poor job, but it's been rebuilt and repainted twice since then, and I think it looks OK now, probably just through the sheer number of times it's been painted and...

The growing rake is looking lovely - I really like the mail van. I'm impressed by how you've combined speed with quality, and more than a little tempted to have a go with card myself...

So far, so good - I think... The inside's beginning to look quite pleasing, and the outside's not bad... Rusty skip 1.jpg Rusty skip 2.jpg I'd like a little more of the orangey stuff on the outside if possible - I've sprayed some more vinegar and will await further developments... Cheers, Andrew.

VERY nice! You've achieved a great finish. And the choice of colour scheme surely betrays a Skarloey Railway influence?!

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

I reckon they're looking pretty good, especially the top one! I've never used that type of paint, but dilution might be the answer - weathered wood's often pretty pale, almost a silvery grey. It's a look I've tried to achieve several times, with mixed success - I thought I'd got it on my Swift Sixte...

Hello again! I tried this technique on some scrap plastic a while ago. I got some lovely orange/brown rust, but I'd used "medium" filings and the texture was too coarse. If gone for "fine" this time - there's still some discernible texture, but I'm hoping that will look like pitt...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Morning all! Yesterday, I took a stroll down to the shops, passing my local station on the way, where that particular stretch of the Great Western mainline was being relaid. The kit on display was pretty impressive - a shiny new class 70 diesel with a long train of bogie ballast wagons, tampers and ...
