Using found items in bashes and builds

After reading about some of the 'found' items Christopher has been using in his scratchbuilds - see http://gardenrails.myfreeforum.org/about9181.html - I wondered what else some of us have used in builds and bashes?? I've certainly used bottle lids for domes, pen barrels and ends for chimneys and th...

The tram is looking rather good. I am glad to see I am not the only one who looks out for odd lid and caps etc that might come in handy. Coincidentally, I posted something on by blog on 17th Jan about that subject - http://riksrailway.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/re-using-found-items-in-scratchbuilds.htm...

I really like the coach. Nicely done. Fascinating to see the view from your window - and I thought the weather was cold here!

Great stuff. Really like your imaginative use of 'found' materials.

Blimey! That really is a rocket!
Thanks for posting. I was wondering how the long wheelbase of the coach would cope with curves but it doesn't seem to have a problem.

Nice video, looks like you had lots of fun, I wish we would get some snow here in Hampshire, 2 winters I've had a garden railway and not one inch of snow! Not had a decent fall of snow for ages. Keep getting these light showers which melt after a couple of hours. Snow ain't what it used to be when ...

I must be too old for this game.... it never occurred to me that the snowflakes were added later, it looks so convincing! Thanks Peter I spent a bit of time playing around with the variables on the 'rain' effect in VideoStudio to make it look more like snow. When the loco passes the camera in the s...

Very nice. An rather atmospheric little film you have done there. I can see the snow on the ground is real but did you add the falling flakes? I only ask as they look quite strange when viewed on my steam powered crap-definition monitor. Hi Yes, I added the flakes when I edited the video. They look...

Peckforton Railway in the snow

A short video bagged this morning before I had to go out. When I came back it was raining so didn't get a chance to shoot any more. :(

Fingers crossed for more snow ......

Coincidentally, I was in a B&M shop yesterday and was tempted by an offer they had on a set which included the loco, a coach and a post van. http://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/postman-pat-greendale-rocket-271330 I was thinking it might make an interesting bash. In some ways it was a good job I d...

Not on topic but found these while looking for something else. http://www.componentshop.co.uk/5mm-ultra-bright-red-white-bi-colour-led-3-lead.html They also have a few other colours in stock. That's good value. The last time I wanted some of these I had to order them from the USA and they cost thre...

My experience with Green Stuff is that it bonds to resin, styrene and whitemetal very strongly. Not yet used it with other materials.

There is a product called 'Green Stuff' which is used by the wargaming fraternity, and we know how detailed their models can be! I've used Green Stuff in a limited way to modify figures (a la Wargaming). Mostly I've added hats or lengthened dresses/skirts to make bought models more appropriate for ...

Not sure which white putty Rik uses, but my filler of choice for polystyrene is Squadron White Putty, available from the better purveyors of plastic kits in Oz. There is also a green version that some prefer. Graeme Yep, Graeme, that's the stuff I use. I had a couple of bad experiences with Revell ...

Rik, I'm sorry to see the damage to your loco after using Evostik, however, I think it may be because it has not been used as an impact adhesive in your instance.  If thin layers are applied it goes off quite quickly before causing such devastation, but if it is poured in it will have time to react...
