Re: Laying track

I would suggest that if your beds have only just been filled then they are going to settle a long way over the coming months. I know you don't really want to, but devising some method of suspending the track so that it's independent of the soil is going to pay dividends over the season. Even if you ...

Re: Lord Elderbury's Stately Home

Ooh, how t'other 'arf live! Excellent concept, design and execution. Interested in your experience printing window frames. I have considered buying one of the cheap 3D printers from eBay (much as Rik has done) with the primary intent of printing window frames. In my probable naivety I imagine they sh...

Re: Scratch built buildings and applying textures to foamex

Careful what you order. Foamex is a brand name and their sheet is two layers of PVC sheet sandwiching a relatively high density foam core. It's really solid and totally weather proof, it's sold for creating exterior signage. Foamex is actually PVC foam that has been compressed, during this process ...

It looks like you've printed them pre-upholstered with some sort of velour.

Re: Scratch built buildings and applying textures to foamex

I'm also a recently new convert to Foamex. Take a look at what Rik's achieved with his brewery, and also check out Stephen Atkinson's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcYG3OlupwNZ9-eXnjtej2Q Not just the build videos (reminiscent of watching Bob Ross painting) but also some of the r...

It's the same red as the Stirling.
Picked mine up from John at Warwick, the last show any of us will be attending for some time.

I know nothing about transporting sheep, but would you expect them to stand distinctly, because they're soft and fluffy would they not merge into one big white mass with multiple heads?

I especially like the guttering and downpipes, have you scratch-built those?

Re: Coronavirus and shows

Warwick was quiet today.
Seemed to be a general air of resignation amongst the people to whom I spoke, that this will be the last show for some time.

As MRail said, the association rely on volunteers, if you want to instigate change you're going to have to volunteer and do it from the "inside". I shall be volunteering as a Steward at the show again this year, and for anyone contemplating it, I can recommend it as a thoroughly enjoyable ...

I just use a scriber to scratch the painted surface under the contact point, then simply use PVA. I did forget once and the side hasn't fallen apart!

Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past

I will be attending Peterborough again this year (Stewarding Friday, and Saturday after the show), and although I chatted with a number of my fellow Stewards, and some of my favoured suppliers, it might be nice to meet some of the people with whom we converse online. I don't think I've knowingly met...

Re: My First Loco Recommendations Please

+1 for HGLW excellent budget kits, and a massive +10 for PS models, loads of lovely simple to build kits which you can improve upon with your own detailing. The PS kit linked above above will not disappoint. It won't pull a rake of loaded tippers, but will manage adequately pulling half a dozen of P...
