I have largely given up on bent ply roofs after discovering the ease and realism of planked roofs thanks to Neil Ramsay's articles. No more wavy edges and a much more pleasing overhead view.

Dan,
What do you use as a scribe on these kits? I have some Atropos kits in the queue and want to do them up right.

Cyril Clarke C&M 'Atlantic'

Here is a short film of my mid-1980s Campbeltown and Machrihanish Atlantic built by Cyril Clarke running at a recent steamup.

Wonderful model, Keith! I really enjoyed the video of the test run, and I am really looking forward to photos and videos of the model as it nears completion.

Jarvis Bay is an interesting piece of work. The owner has even acquired a couple of the coaches 'streamlined' to go with Jarvis Bay. I will have to try to snap a photo of the train when next I see it at a steamup.

I am fortunate in that the upper frame edge is hidden by skirting, so I can use the stock dimension without fear of ruining the aesthetics. http://www.16mm.org.uk/newsite/images/weekly/WeeklyPhoto66.jpg Erin is the subject of my project, of course using as many commercial parts as practical to prese...

GTB, Thanks for the lead to that diagram. It will be very useful when laying out my chassis for cutting. The only piece of information that it does not provide is the distance from the center of the expansion link bearing to the top of the chassis. I need the aforementioned dimension to be able to u...

Tom_tom_go_go, That is going to be a lovely model. A chassis is a good birthday present indeed. Would you mind measuring the diameter of the expansion link bearing hole diameter and the distance from the top of the hole to the top of the mainframe? I am starting to work on a project that involved Ro...

Early Roundhouse Piston Ring Sizes

I have been giving my Dylan a quick once over to maKe sure that all the normal mechanical maladies of a 30 year old loco have been addressed. There is no appreciable wear to the metal bits, but the packing gland rings were very hard and starting to shred, and the piston rings had a nice flat on the ...

Chris, Both of your vintage models are an inspiration. Dylan's packings seem a little in the hard side and will probably end up being replaced. I did the valve glands on my 1985 Old Colonial last year during its restoration, and I think I should do the same on Dylan. Fortunately, there is no appreci...

Garrett, I got lucky with the Dylan. The Old Colonial took a fair bit of work to get back up to scratch cosmetically. Dylan appears to have done limited running and the original paint is in good shape. I need to sort out a bit of timing, but I am really looking forward to relaxed running with the me...

A New Acquisition---1984 Roundhouse Dylan

After a long and tense 9 days, my newly acquired 1984 vintage Rouundhouse Dylan arrive home from Diamondhead, Mississippi, home of the International Small Scale Steamup. I was really pleased to find it available for sale in the flea market at what I thought was a reasonable price. Without further ad...

To be perfectly pedantic, Hunslet Engine Company works number 542 was built for Groby Granite Quarry in Leicestershire as 'Sextus' of 1896 and did not become Lady Madcap unit, around 1911.

I had a loco with a similar problem (Edrig), and it was too much air intake. It turned out that the burner was pulling air around the jet housing (very little, but enough to matter). A couple wraps of PTFE tape sealed the leak, and the burner has been much better since.

Peter, I'm stretching the historical clock at the moment, given that my Peveril is, like all the others, in Indian Red. However, as Peveril was one of the first locos to wear Indian Red (1947 repaint according to photographic evidence and records in Boyd), it is plausible that F6 and F19 MAY have be...
