Re: Another new van for the PLR

I'm a big fan of weathering, and you've made a lovely job of "distressing" the first van, but I really like the contrast between the two - would you consider leaving the second in ex-works condition? I keep meaning to do it myself then get carried away with assorted grot colours... Cheers,...

I love that town scene, beautiful modelling - it looks just right despite the small space, I'm very impressed.

With best wishes,

Andrew.

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

Well worth spending time adding the interior framing, makes all the difference. I think so - I didn't realise how important it was until I looked carefully at some photos of the real thing. My daughter prefers the framed inside to the plain outside and wants me to reassemble it inside out... You ca...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

That's all looking lovely, the buildings are the perfect backdrop for your stock. Or possibly the other way round? I particularly like the crossing keeper's cottage - I don't remember that one, i think you must have made that during my time away from the Forum. Is the stonework on that an embossed s...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

Hello all, I made a little more progress on the station building over the weekend - my modelling time seems to come in small chunks, an hour here, half-an-hour there, which is tricky with some projects but seems to be working OK for this one... The corrugated cladding is now in permanently in place ...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

A prototype livery would quite suit the idea I have for this Loco. My current backstory for it involves the BTC trialling the Modernisation plan on some of the countries Narrow gauge lines in the late 50s/early 60s. The results were a mixed traffic Bo-Bo diesel Loco and a Railcar. They were trialle...

Re: Another new van for the PLR

Lovely vans Rik - I especially like the streaks of rust on the door... I'm currently van-less (MOTLITT van 11 having been withdrawn for heavy overhaul) so I'm tempted to try to do something similar with a couple of Faller vans I've had knocking around for years. I don't think such a quick fix is pos...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

The one in the picture is Tenmille, purchased directly from them. It's actually their asbestos sheeting, intended for G1 I think, but it's about right for corrugated iron in 16mm. It's been easy to mark and cut, but it's quite thin (might become brittle after a while) and fairly expensive (c£5 for a...

Re: A stream for the Elderbury & District Light Railway

Looking great so far - and you've reminded me that a stream is on the long-tern to-do list for the (WH)WHR... I had one (well', more of an elongated water feature really) on my old line, with a solar powered pump. That worked rather nicely for a while, but then stopped pumping water and started emit...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

Hello! I've made a little more progress on this project, cobbling a roof together and cutting the end wall to represent the wooden framing that is a feature of the real thing: Station building 5.jpg The roof was cut from some foamboard that was going to be thrown away somewhere i used to work. It's ...

I'm really enjoying all the photos of your line, and the descriptions of running sessions too, thank you. Like the new addition too - and the livery suggestions. I considered the prototype Deltic livery but I reckon I'd go for one of the variants of BR green - it looks great on the FfR's Funkey dies...

Re: 'Refurbishing' the Bridge over the Greta

That looks wonderful! It already looks very railway-like to me, I don't reckon you need guard rails. I know modern H&S rule call for them, but did they always? I rode on the Dartmouth Steam Railway a fortnight ago (wonderful, a blue King one way and a red Pannier the other, both working hard aga...

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway

That's a fine-looking beastie - rather more impressive than the slow worms that sometimes visit my line, although I'm very fond of those... I don't blame the snake for choosing to admire your permanent way at close-range, that's a lovely smooth curve in the background. You're going to end up with a ...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

I like the slot together design and as you are going to clad over the slots they won't show unlike on some laser wood cut kits. It's working pretty well for me so far - I took it apart and put it back together again twice yesterday, once to cut the windows and once to modify the roof. I could've av...

Re: Ffestiniog 'curly roof' brake van

Speaking to Ivan yesterday; the NWNGR/WHR is definitely expanding with both styles of Pickering brake and the Buffet car (presumably the standard corridor as well). Not sure about FR stock, never asked. Probably worth waiting for rather than shelling out for the (imperfect) Perfect World kits then?...

Re: Brake gear

I looked into this recently (tragic, really...) and found that the handle-on-each-side thing was adopted as standard on SG lines after 1920-something, presumably to aid shunters and reduce the need for them to make a dangerous dive between buffers to apply brakes. I don't suppose that applied to ind...

Re: New locos from Roundhouse & Accucraft Sept 18

Hmmm... I've never been much of a fan of Accucraft's generic locos, but those two are really rather nice, pleasingly chunky and very plausible-looking "muigh have beens", at least to my inexpert eye. Probably a bit big for me though, they'd tower over my carriages, and anyway, if the engin...
