Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hi JMORG, I'm pretty sure it was Beddgellert. It would have been a couple of years either side of 1970. I was only a kid but I vividly remember being on holiday in the area. We went up Snowdon on the train that year (Dad managed to blag us a seat in the front with the Guard!). One of my clearest me...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hello! As a relatively rare treat, I've bought myself a kit to build, Lineside Hut's version of the Ffestiniog timber bolsters, which arrived today. First impressions are that there's an impressive amount of parts to put together, and that they seem well cut, but that for some reason the wagons are...

What has increased significantly is attempts by bots and spammers trying to join! They'll never build a bot that can accurately replicate our nerdiness! Well, mine anyway, I guess I should only speak for myself! You'll be surprised at how sophisticated they can get! A lot of forums I use have tests ...

In between working from home I've been spraying more slate waggons, as well as making a real start on the Swift Sixteen WD D wagon (nice). IMG-20200325-WA0042_resize_91.jpg IMG-20200325-WA0045_resize_94.jpg Braked waggon. The "brakes" are simple wire, with the mounting bracket being made f...

Re: Coronavirus and shows

Our local modelling group have a busy exhibition programme for the whole of the year, all of the exhibitions we attend are organised by other groups and clubs so we suffer no financial loss, however, they will. The first such show is due to be held at the end of March, only two weeks away. So far t...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hi all. I am just finishing a PDF Baldwin tractor (gluing on the fuel tank and splashers today and adding glazing to the front windows) and thought I would add my rivitting method to this discussion. First I draw a straight line for the rivit heads (Cambrian models), then draw a cross line every 5 ...

No. 111 is a good choice Jon, varied liveries and now a PW van allow a large varieties of trains to be assembled with it.

Re: My First Loco Recommendations Please

Hope I'm not too late! I have experience with Swift Sixteen, IP engineering and PDF models. All 3 are good, PDF models now supply metal frames and motion with their models (I'd check before buying, it makes a difference). Of the 3; Swift Sixteen provides the highest quality model although the kits a...

Re: Roundhouse's new engine for 2020 and beyond

I had a close look at Locoworks Prince. It looks terrific and I could tell a lot of work had gone into it. Unfortunately (due to wanting ideas for Welsh Pony) I noticed it was rather large and thus discovered it uses a Bertie chassis. It was therefore very difficult to use this for Welsh Pony due to...

Re: Roundhouse's new engine for 2020 and beyond

All of them are great prototypes, I can see the C class in particular being very popular. Although I like the Davenport, we have no American stock so it'll unfortunately be a no. I hope some of the castings will become available such as the headlamps. The England will be a possibility; I have been p...

UNESCO bid for North Wales slate industry

Just seen in the Talyllyn magazine that the UNESCO bid for North Wales slate is being submitted in January. What do you all think of the chances of the bid being accepted? If so, could potentially it release a fair amount of money to help maintain the area? I do hope it goes through; I'd be surprise...
