Re: new pavers for garden

That really looks superb and presumably an added bonus is that you don't have to cut the hedge anymore.

Re: Coal bins for Beeston Castle and Peckforton

Ah, that video takes me back. I can remember as a small child being terrified of the coal delivery men, to my then mind huge blokes with black hands and faces from the coal dust and the leather (?) reinforcing patches on their jacket shoulders for some reason has always stuck in my mind. Not forgett...

Re: eBay madness

OK chaps I was wrong. I've had a look at a couple of carriers and as you all say it is about the right priceI, teach me to check things before opening big mouth! I still think the postage is a lot of money though but perhaps I've got used to buying a lot on line where often the postage is free.

Re: Ballasting track

20190422_152858-01.jpeg Well I've bitten the bullet and decided to continue securing the ballast with SBR, not only does it make for a very firm trackbed it will also stop the birds from scattering it in all directions, a problem which is very prevalent in my garden. You can see in the photo the sl...

Re: Model road vehicles. and automation.

I have seen something similar in the past few months the trouble is I can't remember where. It was possibly RM web or maybe the 0 Gauge guild and I thought at the time it was quite realistic. A landrover drove a prescribed route up a mountain track with changes of direction effected by magnets on th...

Re: Another Wild Rose Project

I see what you mean Phil. Tracy Tools don't stock them it seems and my next port of call for specialist items like that would be J & L Supplies in Wednesbury. Yes they have them but the price is enough to make your eyes water. I have not yet tried the other usual suspects like RDG Tools, Chronos...

Re: Another Wild Rose Project

Despite the increasing popularity of spotting drills in the model engineering world they aren't that easy to obtain. I became a convert about 5 years ago and now use them almost exclusively to start a hole but I have only been able to get them from online suppliers for commercial engineering, with t...

Re: Ballasting track

Thanks to you all for the comments on my gloss issue, I'm laid up for a couple of days at present after a minor medical procedure but I will be returning to ballasting over the weekend. I know what you mean about the SBR turning blue, when I first applied it I wondered what on earth was going on as ...

Ballasting track

20190414_142821-01.jpeg As part of my track is laid on pavours and has sunk over time I've recently decided to lift the blocks and ballast the track instead, I think it looks more realistic as well with the track sitting in ballast rather than on blocks. I've managed to get some horticultural grit ...

Re: Sand hopper

That's something that has always intrigued me, the abrasive nature of sand must play havoc with any kind of pump yet obviously it's done regularly. Perhaps the mechanisms are just frequently replaced, anyone here have any ideas?

Re: 2019 16mm Show

I had a great day and disappointingly didn't come home with much, not that there wasn't much to appeal to me but I now have a stronger control over myself in differentiating between want and need. One thing I did regret not buying was from a trader who I have not seen before selling model buildings,...

Re: Sand hopper

What a superb video, I really had to concentrate hard to realise it is a garden railway and not a full size one.
One point, are the loads sand glued to inserts or some other miracle from the Rik workshop ?

Re: The Charnwood Forest Light Railway

It looks similar to the problem that I had when using Filcris, I didn't leave enough of an expansion gap in my rails which was Peco incidentally. During hot summer months the Filcris expands far more than the track but in the cold months it contracts far more than the track, leading to the expansion...

I certainly wouldn't call that "wasting" time, it's been very informative and I for one am very appreciative of your efforts in sharing. Just a small point that has occurred to me, is using cardboard for the sound boxes truly representative of our models? I would think that it might absorb...

Re: BR lamp information

I have an identical one painted white which I suspect yours is under all the grime, mine is also embossed BR(W) on the chimney and has no other identifying marks that I have been able to find. I bought it from the railwayana shop at Quainton in the early 1980s and from memory it cost me £9 along wit...
