Re: Simplex Yard Shunter
As promised pictures of the motor, there is no radiator so presumably it is an air cooled diesel. In mid picture is the decompression lever and down the bottom the crank handle slot. Planet Engine Front.jpg The switch in lower part of picture is used once the engine is starting to fire. Planet Engin...

Re: Building an 0-4-0 outside frame tank loco
Looking good so far, makes my current build look like a pile of garbage..... (I mean, it is but....) Don't be so hard on yourself; my early build were rubbish but I learned by my mistakes (there were heaps of them) and tried not to repeat them. Nobody is a master modeller straight up it takes time....

Re: LGB rail attachment
If I was faced with that problem I would bite the bullet and replace the section with a new piece of rail. The issue I see is that there is a straight piece in the middle of a curve that has to be bent to fit the curve. If you put a straight edge down the middle of the track at the end of the curve ...

Re: Simplex Yard Shunter
That's interesting. Has it been fitted with a smaller engine and moved the radiator to under the bonnet? Rik It is powered by a small diesel engine which I think is air cooled, I've never noticed a radiator. I'll check that out next Monday. This is an old photo of it before restoration Planet.jpg

This is a 3D printed one I have been looking at. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4844519 and one in On30 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4866417/files Along with these I am thinking of making a scene for my extension in the shed of a small ore train running to a coal loader using an existing tun...

Some pictures of one made by F C Hibberd in 1959 that's in Bundaberg as a loco shunter that may help with painting ideas.

Sort of a Garden Railway its a 1:1 in a botanical garden.
Had a little Eastern Water Dragon drop in, these are quite common all around the line which runs around a lake.

Not the same can, because I don't feel like getting it from the barn, but same paint inside. 00CBD0A9-1A9A-44DE-8E8A-5ED9B2CCB904.jpeg I'm going to weather the boiler to give it a slightly rusty look, and I'm thinking about distressing the wood cladding, does anyone have any ideas on how I could do...

Re: Building an 0-4-0 outside frame tank loco
I used a new (to me) method from YouTube to make ‘ fillet welds’ where 2 pieces of styrene are glued at right angles. The ‘fillet’ is made from Baking Soda powder, then superglue is dripped on. It sets like ‘rock’. But looks pretty ugly. That sounds like it could be a useful trick, particularly whe...

Re: Big Maple & Little Oak RR
I do plan to scratch build all my stock, but it might be cheaper to buy junk donor cars than just the seperate parts, in my very limited experience. I already have some old Lionel 3 rail stuff but the flanges might be too deep. Donor cars would be a good source of bogies and wheelsets. For the Lion...

Re: Big Maple & Little Oak RR
I laid down some string around the planned tiny loop and cut it to length. I measured it out and was shocked to find that it was no less than 40 feet long... :? I asked my parents for track for my birthday so hopefully they'll find some and I won't have to buy a full 40 feet at the upcoming Mad Cit...

Re: Big Maple & Little Oak RR
To get the line above snow level and to even out the line level have you considered making a raised line? Advantages; All year running with battery R/C control The line is level so no need for trestles etc. No as much bending and crawling round on the ground. It would be a bigger engineering job th...

Re: Speeder for BM&LO
Great use of material just lying around the house. You will start to look at things differently from now on eg a butter container can be a hopper body. An example the bogies in here are scratchbuilt with styrene sheet for the side frames, clothes pegs springs and piece of mint tin for the suspension...

Re: Print nozzle driving into the print bed
New rolls of Tecor arrived yesterday and I started the production run of my coal hopper bodies. After saying that it was better than the eSun filament I was served up a big slice of humble pie. I could not get good bed adhesion at all; I tried using hairspray for the first time and that improved thi...
