Re: Crowfoot Light Railway 2020 spring clean in progress

The Kippo models kit that I laid out in an earlier post as a station building has now been finished. The closure of model shops had prevented me from obtaining a suitable paint to finish off the windows. Note also my use of a shrub/tree growing at the rear which was made using fairly well known meth...

I agree with JimmyB, it is your railway, you do what satisfies you to see on your models. My railway is mostly freelance with a proviso that where possible it should have been at least possible. :)

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Hi Rik, I did look up AnDel at the beginning but discovered they are no longer available, I still have some Andel models D class WD bogie wagons lying somewhere. I bought them just before they stopped trading. The reason I bought them was that the ironwork is separate from the bodywork so, with car...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Slight sequence break here..... The I.P.Engineering coach is now complete and has worked out better than expected. As described earlier, it did require additional support and strengthening in areas which were still affected by the twisting of the material, which would not normally be the case. The ...

Re: Crowfoot Light Railway 2020 spring clean in progress

I love the grimy old works. Like Peter, I make use of Games Workshop (Citadel?) acrylics, but also Revell acrylics for large areas of colour. The Citadel earth wash is ideal for highlighting detail on everything, be it buildings or figures. I agree, the Revell acrylics are especially good for colou...

Re: Crowfoot Light Railway 2020 spring clean in progress

The paint finish on the factory building is superb! Never heard of Kippo Models, just about to look up now. The factory building frontage is 3 x Low relief brick factory walls from Pendle Valley. I gave it a bit more depth with foam modelling board covered with plastic corrugated sheeting that I th...

More buildings getting the treatment.
My latest full build in progress is this Kippo model. Most buildings on the CLR are stone or timber.

This stationary steam engine was intended to be viewable from the open door of the mining company offices, but I inadvertently glued up the floor and couldn't get it in. Ongoing project to find a place where it can be clearly viewed.

Here can be seen the low profile factory that started life as the background to Crowfoot Stn. but is here on the approach to Bramley Bank, where I think it will stay. Hope the 12"/ft foliage gets a move on.

Re: Adhesive for concrete church model

I realise this is a slight thread drift, but having just "googled" SBR, i see it is a waterproof additive, would this also be suitable for concert, when used in conjunction with a water feature - sorry for the drift :) I'm not a builder but I would imagine it would be suitable. I'm going ...

Re: Adhesive for concrete church model

Hi Andy, as you know, Cain is local to me and one of our group members. I have his Engine Shed which I put together myself some years ago now, if I recall correctly it is held together with waterproof tile cement (powder mixed with SBR) and has not moved in at least 5 years, probably longer. An ext...

Adhesive for concrete church model

I've had a 16mm/ft concrete Cain Howley church for several years. I'm now getting to the point where I might actually put it together. I have several buttresses and battlements and other concrete additions. What I can't remember is what advice there is in the way of adhesive to use. I'm think...

Re: Crowfoot Light Railway 2020 spring clean in progress

My only criticism about any resin structure is they tend to shed paint, unlike HIP structures which retain even acrylic, without varnish, with no problems. I don't have a problem with shedding paint but this could be because I take my buildings into storage at the end of an operating session or a f...

Re: Crowfoot Light Railway 2020 spring clean in progress

What a great looking railway. Even though the stone buildings are a bit 'foreign' to my antipodean eyes, I'd love to visit that pub and maybe have some scrumpy. Coming from you that is a great compliment. Thanks. By the way, The Hungry Dragon pub is located 'somewhere in Wales' and while they will ...

Re: Crowfoot Light Railway 2020 spring clean in progress

This is the one I made..... Looks good. A niggle I have with Pendle kits is the downpipes cast on as part of the walls especially when the casting isn't very effective. Previously, with the engine shed and goods shed I have hacked off the cast on versions and cleaned out the mortar courses to smart...

Andrew.
The original plan was for this location to be used for a Cain Howley church but that is still unfinished and will now be elsewhere on the railway.

Crowfoot Light Railway 2020 spring clean in progress

Just a quick showing. The Hungry Dragon pub is a 16mm/ft resin kit from Pendle Valley though not constructed in accordance with the instructions. The booklet does reinforce the view that the hobby is almost exclusively for those who favour live steam running on 32mm gauge track. Or am I just being paranoid (again)! Rik Hi Rik, the hobby as it stands is very much in favour of live steam running on 32mm gauge track and the booklet does reinfor...
