Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Afternoon all, After many months the (WH)WHR is beginning to return to life... I've cleared the trackbed and made a mental list of the various tasks that need doing to make it safe and presentable again. It includes lots of re-ballasting, a new platform at Clarach, a whole new station at Penlan, and...

Re: CRANE FOR FWLR

Hi Rod, I'm really impressed with your crane. It's a great looking piece of equipment. A really workmanlike machine. Very neat and tidy build too. Well done! Andrew I agree, very nice - lovely cranes all round in fact. Just as I was thinking that a crane was one thing I wouldn't be buildi...

Re: Coopercraft has a replacement machine

Ha ha! That's about right - the machine gets replaced just after I get fed up of waiting and build my own - see the rolling stock thread! Still, I think mine will work out cheaper, I think I costed them at about £6 or £7 each... It will be good to have the Coopercraft range back, the world of 16mm i...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

It will be good to see your Baldwin running as you did a nice mod on the cab I believe? I'll have to work out where the transmitter is, and hope that the batteries on that and the receiver can still hold a charge! Maybe sometime this week, or next... The cab mod is just a laser-cut kit to make it l...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hello again, As part of my return to the world of railway modelling I decided to start with some half-finished projects, beginning with a pair of WHR coal wagons that have languished on a shelf for a couple of years. Here's how they turned out, starting with the side with the doors in: Coal wagons 1...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hi Andrew, Any chance you could tell me the source of the dimensions for the NWNGR 4 wheelers? Cheers, Oops, sorry, I've only just seen this, over a year late! I'll try to remember where the drawings are from - I think I may have used various sources, but then largely made them up using the only ph...

Re: Andrew and the Chocolate Factory

Hello again! So much for good intentions, eh? Specifically, the intention to get this layout finished in time for the Avon Valley Railway model railway exhibition, and the one o chronicle that process here... I was making good progress, but it became apparent that to finish the thing on time for the...

Re: Gordon Diplock

Hi Peter, I've just dug out these recollections I posted at the time when the video of the railcar was posted here: I met Gordon a few times when I was very new to the hobby, he always seemed to have something interesting to play with and could build stuff at a most prolific rate. I recall him once ...

Re: Jurassic models Baldwin cab back kit

Hello! Sorry, a little late in the day (I've not been around much!), but if it's still of use, here's the Jurassic Baldwin cab back: Baldwin back.jpg It's designed to slot right down into the bunker, but I had to modify it because that's where the RC kit lives on mine. The kit leaves you to sort the...

Andrew and the Chocolate Factory

Hello all, As promised (well, a little later than promised really...), here's a thread about the indoor line I'm currently building very loosely based on the old Fry's chocolate factory at Keynsham. The factory was connected to the GWR London-Bristol mainline, and had its own Sentinel loco for shunt...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Hello again! Thanks again to those that voted for the Avon Valley Railway's "Chocolate Train" - we got the money! The wagon restoration team can now order the timber they need to rebuild a BR brake van to run with the old Frys factory Sentinel when it returns to steam later this year - tha...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Thanks for the votes - and for the fantastic story! I believe there was a "transfer" to Somerdale twice a day, usually pannier hauled - although apparently the rule book allowed anything except a railcar, so it could theoretically have been a King... Perhaps the chocolate girls were unawar...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Ah, it's good to be back! I've been having a look round and there's so much inspirational stuff going on - I'll participate properly again once I've got a little more modelling time... In the meantime, that chocolate factory microlayout idea keeps bubbling away... I had a bit of a brainwave this morn...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Hello all! It's been an awfully long time since I've been here, but it's good to see lots of familiar faces (well, names...) and some new ones too - I hope this finds you all well... I've done very little in the way of modelling or running trains over the last 18 months, so there's not much to repor...

Evening all, As mentioned previously, recent work on the line has involved tidying it up a little, particularly around Trefechan, which has always been rather neglected. The long siding has been relaid, the slate wall/ledge it sits upon glued and grouted into place, and the whole station site has be...

That's very impressive! All that shunting before anything actually "happens", and not a single derailment!

Thanks for a very interesting little film,

It has been an enjoyable project and I can't wait to try the coach on a garden line next Sunday, with my other homebuilt NWNG/WHR stock, as I don't have one of my own. Hopefully the weather will pick up again. Pictures will follow. Yes please! I'm sure they'll be a sight to behold, it's a lovely ca...
