Re: Camera Vehicle

That's very impressive!

Maybe the technology exists already, but presumably it should now be possible to combine such a camera with phone-based RC so that you can drive, with a driver's eye-view, from the screen of a smartphone?

Seems quite fitting that the milestone Off-topic Topic in this sub-forum is about - itself?!

Re: Shunting on the wrong track!

They used to do something similar in the canefields, only pulling, with rope. Dangerous, and I'm told, illegal nowadays. I think it was an occasional, but frowned-upon, practice in the UK. I believe using a capstan was more common, with the loco and wagon were heading on opposite directions. I thin...

Re: Building an 0-4-0 outside frame tank loco

Greg, I'm really surprised that you feel the need to add this mixture. I find that plastikard forms a strong bond if a solvent (eg. EMA Plastic Weld) is used to weld the surfaces together. Tube glues, or superglue don't have the same effect as they just sit on the surface. Personally, I was thinkin...

Re: Building an 0-4-0 outside frame tank loco

I used a new (to me) method from YouTube to make ‘ fillet welds’ where 2 pieces of styrene are glued at right angles. The ‘fillet’ is made from Baking Soda powder, then superglue is dripped on. It sets like ‘rock’. But looks pretty ugly. That sounds like it could be a useful trick, particularly whe...

It's looking good in "works grey"!

Reminds me of when the F&WHR's Garratt No 87 ran in grey for a season or so:

Re: Kerr Stuart diesel

Thank you! I am pleased with them. Usually, when I varnish wooden parts (like carriage droplight frames), I use it undiluted, need several coats to get the colour I want, and end it with it looking a little thick and stodgy, with gloopy build ups in the corners. This time, I stained the wood first (...

Re: Kerr Stuart diesel

HI a Finally, over a year after I last put it down, some progress on the KS diesel - I've made the shutters! KS shutters.jpg I'm quite pleased with how those turned out, and hope they'll provide the momentum to crack on with the detailing - the next step will involve millions of rivets, which I thin...

Re: Gladstone Coach to Bush Tram Carriage

I love this! The detail and the finish are just perfect. Funnily enough though, despite having spent way too long at WHR photos, and having built a model of the Gladstone Car myself, I didn't immediately spot its origins - it looks "right", just as it is. Don't tell anyone I said so, but I...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Meanwhile I have been viewing Greg's multiple Garratt videos with envy and wondering whether I can justify a second Garratt on my line? Surely the real question is whether you can justify not having a second one? Even a third may be prudent... Enjoying you work on the KS so far, and very much looki...

Re: Falletr Hit Train, Play Train and the like

Hello! I've used quite a lot of the faller "E train" range over the years - the size is better suited to the 16mm/ft scale that many of us here model in. I've used various of the range's wagons modified and repainted to suit my needs, have tinkered with the steam and diesel locomotives, an...

Astonishing, isn't it? Sad too. I haven't used them in decades, since moving out into the garden, but I used to order my indoor supplies from them, following in my Dad's footsteps - he showed me how to write rather formal letters to order things, always beginning "Dear Sirs"... and promisi...

Re: Wallingford Industrial Railway Ltd - 4 January 2024 - Inside storage shed

Thank you both! The traverser idea sounds intriguing, but this will be on a scenic (ish!) part of the layout, so probably not what I'm after. Thank you though! It does make me wonder whether there would be just enough room to have just one entrance (reducing point costs and curvature issues) by putt...

Re: Wallingford Industrial Railway Ltd - 4 January 2024 - Inside storage shed

Thanks chaps, I'll give it some more thought... Do either of you recall roughly how far from the bottom of the until the floor sits? And yes, I'd be propelling whole trains in there, already coupled. I need to think about pointwork - if I have to buy new that will significantly add to the cost, and ...

Re: Wallingford Industrial Railway Ltd - 4 January 2024 - Inside storage shed

Thanks for the video! All this has got me thinking... Over the coming months, we need to repair/replace the deck which stands above Penlan station on my line. While we're at it, we'll probably remove the wood store - we live in a built up area, so barely light the stove these days due to the growing...
