Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

It doesn't matter if there are any wonky bits as long as you do a nice job of the painting! If you feel the need to reach for the toilet brush and emulsion paint like most 16mm modellers just stop and do it another day. Just look on Ebay and you'll see what I mean. I couldn't agree more! Thankfully...

Re: The Potters Orchid Railway

Thanks for the updates, it's looking excellent, and really coming together - I'm impressed with your ability to keep a "Master Plan" in your head amidst all the chaos of construction. And yes, Taliesin is tempting! Cheers, Andrew. PS I thought of you the other day during an episode of &qu...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

I like that very much! I'm also tempted to have a go at emulating it at some point - a gradually collapsing farm building would look just right next to my line, I think... It must have been tricky to get the two halves of the sagging roof to meet in the middle - complex geometry or trial and error? ...

Re: Trees on a Railway

Very nice!

My first railway featured some small gooseberry bushes, which I rather like. The weren't true bonsai, but I kept them quite closely clipped - the fruit was rather over-scale though!

Cheers,

Andrew.

Here we go: https://picclick.co.uk/Sm32-Sm45-16mm-scale-Ffestiniog-Beer-Wagon-kit-narrow-gauge-193490123467.html It's a Ffestiniog open wagon - I believe it's known as that because it's carrying barrels in an old photo. I might be wrong, but I think the building of a replica (Google "Ffestiniog...

Great pictures, thank you. Good work on the extension too.

I love the idea of realistic working with shunters at the various stations etc and "proper" traffic flows - let us know how your first session goes!

I just looked at the website and guessed that "Rik"must be you! Unfortunately another offer's been made, so it looks like they've missed out again - they're hoping that it falls through when the searches reveal that there'll one day be steam trains running feet from the window! Cheers, And...

Very nice - and Russell's running beautifully!

Is that the Ffestiniog beer wagon at the front of the rake? Since watching your video I've added one to my "to build" list!

Cheers,

Andrew.

L&B Bratton Fleming appeal

Hello! I'm not a member of the Lynton and Barnstaple line, and I've only visited once, but I do admire what they've achieved, and their ambitious plans for the future. With that in mind, I've just made a small donation to their appeal to purchase Bratton Fleming station, one of the original stations...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Hello! Just catching up after a busy few days - that van's lovely Peter! A very nice kit, beautifully made. They were still beveling edges after the Victorian era, at Swindon at least - I took a ride on the Avon Valley Railway's "Toad" 1940-built brake last year, and the chap who'd oversee...

Re: Etch primer and painting advice

There is only one and believe me I've tried them all, It's called Hammerite special metal primer it's water based [ although you'd never guess ] and I actually sprayed it but thinned it only very slightly, it dries very quickly and is very good. John Not that I didn't believe you, just done a searc...

Re: Etch primer and painting advice

Hi George, I used barbecue paint on the smokebox of my Bertie and was pleased with how that turned out - think I used it on the cab roof and running plate too, with the rest of the body remaining in RH gloss black. That came in a spray can, probably from B&Q. Actually, that may have been a tip f...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Thanks chaps, glad you approve of the work so far!

I'm afraid I seem to have chosen a very flattering angle for the photo - if you were to look closely you'd see all sorts of wonkiness! I like to think it adds to the light railway charm...

Re: CDR Railcar No. 10

Lovely job Rik, and thanks for the film - the finished thing looks VERY at home on your line, particularly with the wagons trailing along behind. You'll have to watch it or the management will want to scrap all those expensive and extravagant carriages and steam locos and just order a couple more of...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Afternoon all! A little progress to report on my model of FR Van 4... The model uses 7mm NG Association drawings, which I had the (rare) foresight to photocopy up to 16mm scale before work closed down. They're very good, but inevitably small inaccuracies become much larger ones when you enlarge the ...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

I too am pleased with the Bug Boxes, they make a nice splash of colour They look great - the train reminds me of the FfR in the 90s, when they were beginning to come out of their "paint everything red" phase... A "sentry box" brake would complete the rake nicely... https://www.f...
