Oooh, I'm behind the times on this one - what fantastic progress!
The track plan looks great, I love the sweeping curves. I look forward to further progress - I always enjoy "first train" pictures...
All the best,
Andrew

Here we go... Apologies, it's a little long, I think he must have got carried away... Inspection Report: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway Part One: First Impressions. Eeek! Just went outside to sort a few things out before the rain starts and found that I'd left poor Russell in the garden for all of last night and most of today! In its box, but in the middle of the lawn! It's a good job the neighbours are honest...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Could you take some wide shots of the line and share? Sounds quite interesting layout you have there. I'll try to remember to do that - will need to tidy up the garden a bit first though! In the meantime, here are a few shots of a post-inspection run yesterday evening... Cheers, Andrew. 9th May 202...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
The price and quality of Lineside Hut kits are very good, especially some of their newer, high end models. I'm looking forward to buying and building their model of the Curvy Roof Van at some point. It's not currently on the horizon, but I'll need to have done it by 2023, so I can recreate the open...

Last time I saw him he was shaking, whether with fear, rage, or both I couldn't tell...
The inspection appears to be over - I await his report with trepidation...
Don't know if he works on Sundays - Monday, maybe?

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Hi Andrew, Seems the weight is the main issue then, otherwise it would run well would it. :?: Would a flat wagon with really small wheels help, then you could possible add some weight with a heavy load like slate or even a hollow box with some led in it.... Yep - When running as a three w...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Any issues with curves ie: what is the length with the match wagon Andrew. Hi Rod, With the slate wagon in between the whole thing is just under a foot long, and it seems I'd spoken too soon when I said the set ran well - on a subsequent run there were some problems with "bow string effect&quo...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
hey Andrew, is your line end to end or a loop? Hi Mitch! It's sort of both - it goes all the way round the edge of the garden, but climbs all the way, so the two ends don't (can't!) meet up. It's actually just about a spiral, because the upper terminus sits on top of the tunnel that leads from the ...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
PS I think you're going to be reluctant to return to normal work !! Yep! Clearly there are some awful things going on, whether in hospital wards or tiny garden-less flats, but I must confess that aside from not being able to see family and friends, the slow pace of life kind of suits me as it is ri...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Thanks Andrew, glad you like it. And thanks too for the mention of the Alun Turner book - I thought I had a copy of all the Welsh Highland histories but didn't know about this one, I'll track down a copy. The fun carried on after work... 590 and its goods train had finished the morning's duties at C...

Those sidings look REALLY handy, I'm sure you won't regret adding them. I'm rather envious of your indoor storage sidings too...
I'm always trying to work out how/where to cram in extra sidings but I think I'm at capacity!
All the best,
Andrew.

Thanks, glad you like the pictures.
I fuelled, oiled and watered 590 at lunchtime, ready for another run after work.
In the meantime, here's that last photo again, but with a filter (called "burlesque"!) applied:
Quite nice, I thought...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
What's next for the workshop? All will be revealed... They won't be next, but I reckon some NWNGR/WHR slate wagons are rising up the priority list. This morning's train included a plastic Ffestiniog 2t version which bounced around a bit among the heavier wooden WHR opens and vans - I've got some me...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Morning all, It's another fine day here in Bristol, so I took advantage of my present more flexible working arrangements to run an early morning goods train. It's the only time of day when Penlan bank and station get much light, and I fancied making the most of it. I've not run the Baldwin for ages,...

I'm glad you approve, I'm pleased I did it. They're more like the real thing now, but still don't stand close comparison!tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 4:45 pm I am glad you changed the wheels on the bolster wagons, they look much more substantial.
