Does that give protection against frost, Peter? I'm waiting for Beeston Castle ruins to dry out before applying masonry waterproofing agent. SBR might be an alternative if it can be applied to damp Thermalite......

Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway
Sad news, Tom. Always been interested in seeing developments on your line. It's been a fascinating test-bed. Looking forward to seeing your future endeavours. I'm sure that you'll continue to tinker and experiment, RWLR or no RWLR. Don't worry about your eligibility for running the forum. I don't th...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Looks great Peter. You've managed to get a remarkably consistent colour to the roadway especially considering it took 3+ mixes. Out of interest, what are the potential problems with the tarp cover envisaged by your friend? Is it something to do with a damp micro-climate being created underneath it? ...

Re: Another new van for the PLR
Simon, I know Rik suggested it, but doesn't just putting 32mm wheels in a 45mm chassis look odd with the solebars/axle boxes an extra 6mm too far away from the wheels? Accucraft get away with it on their models - I suppose it's a personal decision as to whether you can live with it. I found a spare...

Thanks folks. It's not too difficult. Probably a day's work, though I did it in three sittings.

Re: Another new van for the PLR
I'm sure it would be relatively easy to fit 32mm wheel sets.
Just blogged the build BTW - http://riksrailway.blogspot.com/2018/08 ... -into.html

Another new van for the PLR
Decided I needed another van to handle the fruit traffic on the railway - so this time I bashed a Newqida box car (£18.99 + P&P). A bit too long, a bit too continental and a bit too yellow for the PLR!! IMG_8405.JPG . So, after some surgery with a razor-saw and a few coats of paint...... IMG_847...

Re: Couplings
On refelection, I've decided delayed uncoupling is actually an unnecessary complication, particularly if I used magnets for uncoupling. I'd have to use an electromagnet or a permanent magnet on a movable platform so it would only uncouple the required wagons. I reckon I could get away with steel dro...

Re: Couplings
. I've seen Tri-ang couplers modified with a simple swinginging wire ring that can drop down behind the bar when wagons are buffered up with the hooks raised. They can then be pushed into position and when the loco reverses, the ring swings over and covers the hook, allowing it to ride over the bar...

Re: Couplings
Well, after a bit of head-scratching and some experimentation, I have achieved my objective of creating a hook-and-loop coupling with delayed action uncoupling. However, I'm not sure how practicable it is (more later). The loops are as before but the hook has been modified to include a forwards faci...

What a picturesque looking railway. Looks very much part of the landscape. Good to hear from you and good to have a relatively young member contributing. Hope to hear more.

Re: Chuffing odd.....!
The driver reckons that when they needed to replace one of the eccentrics (ie mechanical, not human), they 'borrowed' one off another loco and it's not quite right and they can't adjust the timing any further to counterbalance it. He says she goes quite well in reverse but is a bit temperamental whe...

Chuffing odd.....!
They say there is a prototype for everything. The soundcards on my battery steam outline locos are sometimes criticised for not sounding realistic or because the chuff is out of sync. We had a ride on the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway (former Bowaters Rly) this weekend and one of their K...
