I'll try and take some photos of what I mean by opening out the gaskets - all it is is taking a needle file, and filing into the gasket material approximately where it partially obstructs the steam holes on the cylinder. If not on Lady of the Lake, expect it in the next couple of months when I work ...

Since the last post the Mamod which will eventually be named Baz has been fitted with a large capacity meths tank and to cure her somewhat lacklustre performance she's now fitted with Roy Wood cylinders and a reversing block from the same stable. Seen on test with any loose items left off. ./myff/2...

No rivets usually means an SL-K but also the rivets could have been removed by previous owner for ease of maintenance.

The "works locos" were whatever mood I felt, or, when I looked at the engine, I wondered what would suit each one. That' how early ones ended up with such as 'Great Star' and 'Deep Thought'. These days, the two large locos are both named after foxes. The incoming new acquisition came about...

A lot of input here. Thank you gents, it has been most helpful. Keep an eye out, I intend to record a diary in the Loco section. If you chaps look back to 2012 and early 2013 threads for "Second Chance", that is the loco I am seriously thinking about bringing back. I sold it to a keen coll...

This buyback would be to make it a keeper loco, a new 'small loco' in my permanent shed alongside my Caradoc and my RH Beyer Peacock. The name "Second Chance" was given to it by me four years ago as it had had indeed a second chance on two scores: after 10-15years in store in an attic I ha...

It was always agreed that if I bought back, it would be at the cost that I sold it and no more. So its either the cash as originally sold or the engine itself. So no gain or loss on the point it was sold. Think of it like a pawn shop deal

Go for version 3. It's a nicer large cab but one that isnt overimposing like v2 was. V1 was too skimpy.

Would You Buy Back?

Let's say you sold a steam loco that you had rebuilt and restored, and you had sold it four years ago to make some money. It was very successful and the sale completed. Move forward four years. Your pride and joy of your collections has gone - insert whatever reason here. Fire, theft, disaster. You ...

A Basic loco bit one that fits the Ffes/TR/Corris loading gauges. Their Bertie is more like a 2ft6in loco.

The only thing with Accucraft locos is the gas system. Jets seem more prone to blocking and the older 'toastrack' burners are noisy and somewhat inefficient. If you're willing to sort these issues, then an Accy is well worth it. My Caradoc once I had the gas system replaced after nearly five years i...

New efficient motion, a clean of the gas system and a repaint could see this look very smart.

You can see how it unfolded - it can be addicted. I'm as we speak tweaking my 'Lady of the Lake' Janet in perfecting it.

I'm tempted to come out of retirement. But I'm not really a tram loco person, but at same time I think a good loco can be wielded from it.
