Re: The Great Garden Railway Inspection Reports
A most comprehensive line report, I presume that written publication will be due soon in the form of a government white paper? Seriously though Rik, your imagination knows no bounds. Thanks I tried looking online for an example of an inspectorate report such as those provided for new railways, but ...

Re: The Great Garden Railway Inspection Reports
Peckforton Light Railway Summary Report For my more detailed report please refer to the Inspectorate website and/or the Peckforton Light Railway website My first impressions of the PLR are that it is like stepping back in time. I was picked-up from the Beeston & Tarporley mainline railway stati...

Looks like a fair bit of progress, and a few sods are being dug as well. Hopefully, there will be an inaugural run before too long....

Now got another two wagons completed. DSCI1819.JPG . DSCI1821.JPG . I've tweaked the design slightly as I've progressed. IMG_9264.JPG . Quite happy if there is slight variation between the wagons as those on the Snailbeach were far from uniform. I've now cut and shaped the components for the remaini...

Re: DMLR - Photo Day
The way to get a good depth of field is to use a tripod to mount the camera and choose aperture priority. Select the smallest aperture, f16 of f22 or smaller if available (the higher the number the smaller the aperture. The shutter speed might be quite slow (long) so a cable release to activate the...

Re: Dual Gauge Peco SM32 Track
That's a really smart solution, Chris. I was considering some dual gauge track at one point, but abandoned the idea as too complicated and/or expensive for my limited resources (capabilities and financial). You've now rekindled my interest.

Great set of pix, Steve. I don't remember having seen Phil before. What an attractive little loco. Impressed also with your camera techniques. Have you got a fancy camera which enables you to adjust the depth of field (eg through aperture settings?) or does your camera have an auto 'large scale mode...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
After a light sanding I spray grey primer and allow to dry. In this instance I have dry brushed with Citadel acrylic paint (Dryad Bark) to show highlights and after drying a wash coat of Agrax Earthshade to settle in the grooves. Peter, I think I'm in need of a Butler MasterClass. I've followed you...

Re: The Charnwood Forest Light Railway
What a fascinating hobby this is. Here we are discussing the finer points of thermodynamics in relation to materials. We should get garden railway modelling on the school curriculum and as a post graduate degree syllabus.

Hi Dwayne Wow, sounds like you've been through the wringer over the past few months. Hope all things settle down - you're right, losing yourself in a hobby is good therapy. I can happily whittle away several hours with no other thoughts in my head - or maybe that's just me. :? Not had a chance to gi...

Re: Comparing speaker performance in G scale locos.
Fascinating stuff, Greg. I tend to use small encapsulated speakers inside my little locos. I must try some similar comparisons of the various types I have used over the years.

as well as 1mm hexagonal for bolt heads. I'm a big fan of round nail art gems (for modelling purposes I should add. RAILWAY modelling...) but didn't know they came in hexagonal varieties. I can see 1mm hexagonal glitter shapes, but they're rather lacking in depth - have you found something thicker,...

Re: Now....what should i do with this?
I really enjoyed the article, Mark. Nicely written and illustrated. I'd forgotten who'd given me the tip about using nail art dots as rivets. Incredibly good value at no more than a couple of quid for 1000. And you don't have the faff of having to separate them from the sprue. I've now got bags of 1...

Peckforton Light Railway update
In addition to the bigger projects already mentioned on the forum ( ie the brewery and sand hoppers), I've managed a few jobs in the great outdoors. I've reinstated the fencing (ex GRS) behind the platform at Peckforton Station and installed another running in board. IMG_9157.JPG . I've also repaire...
