One thing you should bear in mind is that the Roundhose Basic locos (Millie and Bertie) get "tested to make sure they run" whereas the more expensive locos get more running in on the bench, with the result that they WILL run superbly straight out of the box. A Bertie or Millie will require...

I would like to be able to move to a place where I could build and operate a garden railway. It's all very well nipping over to Butterley (it's only 10 minutes away by car) but it'd be much nicer to be able to nip down the garden and run for half-an-hour now and again. However, tomorrow will see the...

For the MDLR / Flagg Fluorspar I use Terry Pratchett character names - the Diesels are all named after witches (apart from number n n n n n nineteen, which is named Paul Hardcastle) and the steamers are all major characters.

My Darj is named after my late father-in-law, whose bequest paid for it.

Is there a place where I can get 0 gauge wagons that aren't too expensive. ;) (jumps on hobbyhorse) There are lots of inexpensive kits you can acquire - not down to £15 but good value. You could do worse than starting here: http://www.ip-engineering.co.uk/acatalog/Ezee_Loco_And_Rolling_Stock_Range....

OK - let's point you in a different direction. If you were to visit the Houston Gate Locomotive Works web site - http://www.hglw.co.uk/ you will see locos powered by 2 x AA dry or rechargeable batteries. These are good basic models, DEAD easy to put together, but capable of being customised to suit ...

There are tracks on the backside so a train should be able to fill a pair of wagons with grain (or M&M´s) I would think M&M's would be infinitely preferable! (and a bulk bag wouldn't be THAT expensive)(but not for use in the summer - imagine a silo filled solidly with M&M's which had me...
