I always use lead sheet as used in flashing on chimneys etc.... off-cuts of new sheet lead might be available from a friendly local builder or plumber, if not I will gladly supply you with some. PM me if that suits.

I bought one of the chassis on ebay (new and boxed) at a great price and scratch-built a steam outline body on it with eight rechargeable AA batteries in the boiler. It has Rik's Deltang based RC fitted and works extremely well.

PS box sized to account for amount of rainfall, perhaps very deep in your case. Shall take tongue out of cheek now!! You don't know how close you are to the truth there Grant..... after the recent rainfall we have experienced here the whole structure would be needed to accommodate the box! I do hav...

I could make that fit into the roof space Grant, although the chimney itself is sealed at the top. Is this an idea to re-direct water coming into the building or to reduce condensation? Or both!

Here it is, almost finished except for the guttering and downspouts..... The 'slates' and flashing are fitted using the strip method shown earlier.  This is a fast and effective way of covering a large area, it also keeps water out of the structure so hopefully reduces the chances of windows becomin...

I have seen on the SE lounge someone using wooden art mannequins to build whether you can obtain them to scale 16mm size I don't know. I use those too as they are suitable for the larger scales. Available from 'The Works' at about £1.00 each they can be used as a good strong adjustable mannequin. D...

I have made some figures myself, although a little larger than 1/19th scale for my Emetts. For the framework I used floral wire, the sort flower arrangers use to make blooms stay where they want them. It is very flexible and easily makes up into a human form with additional strength added by winding...

As you possibly already know, I use Rik's control system and recommend it highly. If you are unsure of the components Rik is always willing to offer advice.

Well, you're all too kind and understanding to keep quiet about the lack of chimneys on my pub.... but eventually I had to do something about it and they have now been fitted and primed. ./myff/2029577/IMG_4285.JPG ./myff/2029579/IMG_4283.JPG Also, I have spent many happy (?) hours marking out and c...

Yes Rik, I scratch the plastic sheet with the edge of a Stanley knife blade to give a key for the SBR. I should have mentioned that earlier as it is an important part of the process..... sorry!

Thanks Bazzer, the bricks are quite time consuming but worth the effort.... I have previously described the way I cut the bricks in strips with bevelled edges using a Stanley blade sideways drawn against a straight edge . Once the structure is ready for paint I use a light grey plastic primer which ...

Ageing (dis)gracefully

I must be getting old, or my memory tells me so when it bothers to work! My question here is.... do we have a way of selecting and filing particular items of interest from the Forum which we (I) would like to refer to without spending days searching through the past several years worth of threads? T...

Since joining I have learned so much from others with far greater experience and knowledge of...
