Hello again all! I'm really very grateful for all your suggestions - I've tried most of them to the best of my ability but in the end had to ask for professional advice... I've just received the loco back from Tony at Rhos Helyg where the dodgy timing and one or two other problems have been resolved...

Hello all, It's Easter weekend and the sun's shining - time for a train! I had the additional incentive that a large part of our garden fence is down, opening up new views of the line, both from our garden and from next door's - with their permission of course! Margaret checked that the line was cle...

Looking good! I think it'll be nicer in maroon, less shed-like than varnish I reckon. Not that I've got anything against varnished carriages, I just reckon paint will suit this one better...

Looking forward so seeing it take shape - I always like the bit where 2D becomes 3D...

Cheers,

Andrew

That's very neat! I'm tempted to try it at my upper terminus where the point at the entrance to the loop is in a very awkward location. It looks like it would work brilliantly for 90% of my operations but would rule out passing trains there by running one straight into the loop while another is in t...

Hello! Glad you like my efforts! I feel I ought to clarify that the back stories you've been enjoying relate to the original figures - I've not been crafting strange science fiction epics linking the goings on a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away with those of inter-war Snowdonia. Although I am...

Hello!

I've never tried it, but do you think pressing chalk dust into the render as it dries would work? I just had a look at some chalk pit pictures - I reckon I'd try to leave some little pockets for planting...

Good luck,

Andrew.

Hello again... This week I've been painting the figures for the WHR Summer Car. I've done loads of these before, but I'm still surprised how long it takes... Here's a pleasingly surreal view of work in progress. The plate and knife in the foreground are not the remains of my dinner (I'm lazy, but no...

Thanks for the comments chaps, much appreciated. Yes, I've been dressing up my little Regner a fair bit, and there's more to come - I've got a tender under construction and it will gain a new coat of paint at some point too. I figured that because it would never look much like anything that ran on t...

Some wonderful photos, thank you! Those last photos inspired me to run my own Regner today - I must get on with repainting mine! I agree with the others too, beautiful rolling stock...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Could you take a couple more pics of yours so i can get some inspiration for flower beds please? Will the any of the above do Maple? You could try looking back through the thread too, but if there's anything more specific you'd like then shout. If I could I'd have made the planters a little wider, ...

Hello all, What a lovely day it's been today! I got out in the garden properly for the first time this year, clearing the line and running a pre-season inspection train. I'm working on a battery powered inspection trolley, but that's till a little way off, so the train was made up of my "Konrad...

Thanks for the advice Jim, much appreciated.

I've changed job recently and now finish for the day at 4 - an extra hour to spend in the garden of an evening! I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the maintenance backlog...

Hello again, With the weather looking up a little today I risked some spray priming and the two current projects both edged a little close to completion... Like most of my carriages the NWNGR 4 wheelers have separate droplights, but I decided to paint them rather than varnish as I usually do - here ...

Overall Looks cracking, cheers for the advice on the slate, will be stealing that idea very soon lol Hello! Glad you like it... The wood seems to be holding up ok, but the glue isn't in places. I used ...

Whatever you do, don't paint the rods red - it seems to cause no end of trouble...

I owned a Brick, briefly, about 20 years ago, never could get it to run...

Good luck with it!

Thanks for all your thoughts on this folks, much appreciated. I'll try to do some more investigating/testing later. And perhaps a little shampooing... You might be onto something re the connecting rods. When I fitted the slide bars I also removed and repainted the connecting rods, so could have put ...

Hmmm... No binding on the slide bars, the wheels turn freely when the connecting rods are disconnected, and there don't appear to be any stray feathers... I made a slight (token?!) adjustment to the valve position too. I raised steam again but the jerky movement persisted - the first run (on rollers...

Looking good! If you're going for an industrial feel you could just leave them as flats and make lots of interchangeable and interesting loads? The local youths have recently inhaled a whole boxful of those little laughing gas canisters which they've left lying about empty at the top of the road - I...
