Me too! I don't think a computer controlled laser cutter could have done it any better - in fact, it probably wouldn't have been as good!

Re: Inspiration needed

As Andrew says, when I'm running out of ideas I think of adding another lineside industry. For example, when decided to add the sand quarry I ended up ..... * Deciding where the quarry would be best sited * landscaping the area * Creating new trackbed and laying new track * Building a rake of nine s...

Re: Ludwig Gross Betriebe Werkslok battery conversion

Your engine is an LGB 20620. If you want to see a blow up diagram of all your engines parts, it may help in locating the points/places you want to disassemble. To see those diagrams go to "trainli.com" and look at their LGB Parts PDF's. Then scroll down to your engine number "20620&q...

Re: Ludwig Gross Betriebe Werkslok battery conversion

I don't have any experience of that particular loco, but I have converted a Stainz loco using the socket on the back. Although the socket was connected to the onboard circuit board, it did feed directly to the motor. I have no idea how your loco is wired up. It might be worthwhile connecting a volt ...

Re: Hornby Magazine - Building the Festiniog

Interesting. Surprisingly well detailed for a free video. The reviews of the Heljan 0 gauge stock are towards the end. They would be tempting if I wasn't so committed to the PLR ...... Get thee behind me ......

Re: And now for something else

Main chassis has now been printed and papered, yes papered. A good friend of mine papers all his 3d models before he paints them and credit due, they don't look like 3d printed models as the finish is perfect. He showed me how best to do this and I had a go on the main chassis today (whilst chasing...

Re: First scratch-build - signal box

Folks thanks for your kind and helpful comments. My intention is to leave my buildings outside during the warmer months of the year but to store inside during the winter. The foam board is of the paper-covered type; some trials I undertook beforehand suggested it actually becomes a stronger materia...

Re: First scratch-build - signal box

That's a beauty! Certainly a lot more accomplished than any of my first efforts. I've used ordinary acrylic paints on my buildings - even the ones which stay outside all the time - but they do fade. I've had more success with exterior house paint, but it can be a bit thick for the finer details. Not...

Re: Weak Bachmann Lyn motor

Well folks! Thanks very much for all your kind thoughts, suggestions and contributions - both in words and, in one case, in posting me a replacement motor - which I maybe won't need to use. I think I have identified the problem and fixed it (let's hope that's not famous last words!). By cleaning eve...

I tend to use the dome shape in TinkerCAD. My default value is 1.5mm dia which gives 0.75mm height

Re: Festiniog Railway Coaches 15 and 16

This is not a criticism in any way, but I notice the the diagonal print marks across the panels. This is something I always seem to get and so far have not found a way to stop it. I've always assumed it is to do with speed and distance of retraction whn the nozzle moves across, but no amount of fid...

Re: Weak Bachmann Lyn motor

If the worm wheels are standard size, then maybe a motor with smaller diameter worms might give more thrust. I'm hoping that assumption is valid. With worm gears, the gear ratio is dependent on the number of starts of the screw, not the diameter of the worm. E.g. a single start worm used with a 40 ...

Re: Weak Bachmann Lyn motor

Thanks chaps. I think my next option is to design and 3d print a new housing for the motor block. If the worm wheels are standard size, then maybe a motor with smaller diameter worms might give more thrust. I'm hoping that assumption is valid. The most obvious difference between the Bachmann block a...

Hi Graeme
It says it's a Buhler motor - unless it's a clever clone.

PS - You can see from the bulge in the side of the motor block that the motor (or its predecessor) has, in the past, got somewhat warm......

Re: Weak Bachmann Lyn motor

Further to my previous posts - I've now tried another test run and discovered, curiously, that it runs better in reverse than going forwards. In reverse it's almost but not quite passable - but going forwards, skin and rice pudding springs to mind. I've removed the motion to eliminate that as a poss...
