Re: Roundhouse Katie Kit build
2 tricks to try on the return crank Use a saw to continue the slot onto the other side of the crank pin opening, this allows the crank to tighten down harder without distorting the shape of the crank pin hole and with less force from the nut/bolt. Substitute the Roundhouse nut and bolt with a stainl...

Re: Garden Railway Gallery - a POLL, please read.
Hi Ricky, thanks for the input. FYI, and anyone else who hasn't seen them, these are the rules as posted at the beginning of the Gallery: Someone obviously put a lot of thought into these rules, I think they are comprehensive and workable as long as everybody takes this ‘non- competition’ as a bit ...

Re: Dedicated to the over committed projects/under producers
That is indeed a lovely curved point... Andrew. Oh dear, now I am posting in reflected glory. The first 3 points on the layout were built for me by Todd Heathrington when indeed it was planned to have a ribbon cutting “by Christmas “. Wife: “for heavens sake get that garden cleaned up and get somet...

Hi Graeme,
The design has a fair amount of weight behind the fixed wheelbase . Did you weight up the front or rely on the springing of the trailing truck to balance it up.

Re: Garden Railway Gallery - a POLL, please read.
I seldom read the Gallery. I am naturally inclined to vote 3. But I am voting 2. Not because I feel entitled to an opinion but because, surely, those who do contribute photos and those who vote do so for some sort of enjoyment. Who am I to rain on anyone’s parade? I didn’t vote 1 because debate is a...

Re: Static points, has anybody created a working set?
There's a bit of a bump in the facing direction because the wheels fall into the hole where the point blade is supposed to be, but you'd fix that if you were building one like this by design. On the 1:1 version above ( admittedly not quite what you want) there can be seen a pad for the flange to ru...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread
I'm going to make a conscious effort to hold back on building anything new and instead focus on quality rather than quantity. Regarding resoldering the exhaust pipes, they look to be soft soldered, but I'm thinking these likely get pretty hot and I'd be better off silver soldering them? I can easil...

Re: Gravity running on the RVOM
Because of the light weight there will be no significant wear to worry about, will having the wheels a loose fit on a stepped axel, combined with a retainer on the outside work. Any standard bearing will produce a lot of friction?

Re: Lady Anne in slomo
I’ve been waiting about a year for a slomo to arrive for my kit built lady Anne, so to make up for it I thought I’d film her going up a gradient in slomo! The grade is hard to estimate from the perspective in the clip but it seems to bring out the best in the chuff. Care to guess the grade for refe...

Hi Peter,
Is the lambs tongue effect on the frame work a product of clever laser work or diligent building?

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Hi Peter,
Wonderful build, I would have had a hard time covering up the excellent work on the greater portion of the coach.
On the prototype, were the strangely shaped uprights to keep tension on the canvas?

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Well done and thanks for the comparison. Both coaches look excellent. Despite being of similar dimensions the open coach, on the left, has more of the 'magic carpet' stance beloved of narrow gauge pioneers. Presumably they were scared of tipping over, or perhaps it was a marketing ploy to make the c...
