Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi Jimmy.
If you look at the photo of the machine on my workbench you can see the screw that holds the table to the body. This can be loosened with the supplied Allen key to allow you to tilt the table up and down. I will add a photo in a few minutes.

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi Rick. I agree with you entirely about the initial outlay of any tool really. I can justify it to myself by saying the only cost to produce this brake van is the cost of this tool and just paint and a couple of centre buffers as i already have wood, wheels, bearings etc. And i will have the sander...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi all. While cutting stripwood for the sides of the van I was wondering on the best way of cutting the angles on both ends of the 12 angled strips either side of the doors. I have a Dremel type machine that takes small sanding disks but I was not sure how I could hold and sand accurately. Looking a...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi all.
Progress to date. I have cut and glued the side frameworks. Also I have made doors to open and trial fitted them. The below photo shows the sides test fitted to the chassis with an elastic band but please be aware nothing has been cleaned up yet.

Hi Peter.
We are fine now but we were both rough on Sunday. It won't stop us having having our second though.

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi all. I have been working on my brake van body this week and will post a couple of photos later but i thought i would share how i solved a construction problem at the start. I am building the framework for the body from 4mm square stock but however much i would like to joint it together, I think t...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi all. Just thought I would update the group on what I have been doing during these long periods in tiers and lockdowns. At the beginning of last year I built a rake of Slaters and scratchbuilt Ffestiniog slate wagons and then a PDF Models De Winton kit that I detailed with wooden boiler cladding a...

Re: Southwold coach

Hi All. This is my home built NWNG railway Cleminson carriage. IMG_20201209_132759.jpg My difficulty was also trying to keep the centre truck on the track. I initially made it with a flexible coupling of rigid arms connecting the centre truck to the end trucks similar to the system below as used by ...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Peter and Andrew. I agree with you both. If it looks fine then it is fine. It looks like the present FR don't have dimensioned plans of the original van 3 anyway. I will show you how I get on when I start it.

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

That's an interesting comparison Peter. It seem strange however that if Festipedia is correct and van 3 is approx 12' long and 6' high it should be twice as long as it is high. Do we think a little artistic licence is being used in producing your kit to a squarer outline than van 6. Van 6 does look ...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi Peter. I have found this photo on the 'Festipedia' website which seems to confirm that your info about the end balcony is indeed correct. IMG_20201207_181412.jpg Festipedia also state the it is 13' in length, which may be correct as brake van 6 with end balcony on the same website is quoted as 12...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

That would be brilliant Peter thanks. I have photos from the interweb net type thing, so of I have basic overall length, width and height of the wooden structurei can print a picture using these overall measurements using Publisher and copy other measurements from this.

FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi all.
Does anyone have, or know where I can get, dimensions of the above van. I would like at add one to my scratch built FR/NWNG stock. I can find plenty of photos but would like to built it to an accurate scale if i can.

Life in the old dog yet.

Hi all. I was reading on another forum where a modeller had taken an old and wellworn hammer once owned by his father, cleaned it up and brought it back to life. That set me thinking about how many of us are still using anything in our modelling that, in other circumstances, could have been thrown a...

Re: Coronavirus projects

Hi all. Latest lockdown project is a small hunslet called 'Junior' but for a granite quarry in sunny Leicestershire not a Welsh slate quarry. It should be quite distinctive with no cab, just a roof supported on 4 steel pillars. So far i have the underframe and cylinders painted matt black with the m...
