Common practice for a locomotive to have a black boiler and the loco to be a different colour. Especially in narrow gauge. I found examples of this with European locos, however, could not find UK narrow gauge versions (not that it matters) ;) Going to try and have a big push with the build over the...

I like using Acccuraft choppers because unlike with link and chain the rolling stock does not bang into each other when you stop or start up.

They are also cheap and can be modified.

Hopefully Matt you can make it to my steam up in the summer to see it running. /myff/tom_tom_go/DSCN1513_zpsde3cc432.jpg /myff/tom_tom_go/DSCN1515_zpsca130ef3.jpg The BBQ paint I used for the boiler was not very hard wearing so I repainted it with the same stuff that I have used on the boiler cover ...

Stephenson`s `Northumbrian` because all locos since have used the same fundamentals of its design. However, without Jerónimo de Ayanz y Beaumont who patented the first steam powered device in 1606 (water pump for mines) then steam engines as we know them would not of existed. But do we then say with...

Good start Jay on your line.

On my double-track section my spacing is around 150mm measured from the centre point of the sleepers.

The size depends on what you want to run though so get the dimensions off a website and build accordingly.

Don't know about you, but I'm unimpressed with the thick shiny paint that the Accucraft factory used on the latest batch of couplers..... Graeme Yes I agree, it seems more difficult to cut accurately as well (whether that's just the paint finish or they are using a different material?) I appreciate...

I was thinking for the Accucraft choppers that we both cut down could a belt/disc sander be used on the coupler housing once cut to make it square?

Nice one with the Lego Technic bits Peter.

I have built a small loco/wagon using Lego in this scale before and it's good fun because you don't mind what colour bricks you use ;)

Thank you gents for the comments (and nice to hear from you David, glad you have not been blown away or drowned in the weather where you are). It's a standard Lady Anne dome sprayed by RH, however, to get it to fit on the SL you need to change the water top-up valve due to the size difference: ./myf...

Been a while since I have managed to get outside with a loco due to the weather. Here she is with her new Lady Anne dome (so to match the Riverdale 'Amy' once finished): /myff/tom_tom_go/DSCN1509_zps78e36e36.jpg /myff/tom_tom_go/DSCN1508_zps59d1f8c6.jpg /myff/tom_tom_go/DSCN1507_zpse2da4b9c.jpg I pr...

I have used his Gauge 3 point levers (brass) for outside use with Peco points.

Good quality casting and they work just like the real thing :)

I would of used his stainless steel rail if I had know about it from my beginnings in 16mm.

Look for wheel wobble on your IP wheels.

Most sets I have ever bought wobble so I don't tend to use them despite trying to fix.

Do you have an Accucraft wheeled stock, do they do the same thing?

Yes they will work with Accucraft choppers as I asked them a while back, however, cannot justify the price!

Hi Andrew,

Gluing couplers when required is not a problem if you use something strong like Zap-A-Gap.

I have used this on a few wagons with Accucraft choppers and they cope even with weighted loads over 1kg.

I also thought if you have a dyson duck tape a smaller nozzle to the hose and suck the pipe out?

Do not fire the loco. Fish it out with wire as suggested. Can the safety valve be removed to give you an extra drainage hole?

If you must use Peco set track curves go for the new 3ft curves.

0-4-0 locos will go round 2ft ok but I would say 3ft min for 0-6-0 and R/C is a must unless you can have large radius curves (4ft and above).
