I was wondering if you could persuade Roundhouse to part with a Silver Lady chassis, it's the same dimensions as Lady Ann but has sprung wheels so the centre one actually does some work.

How well will aluminium last outside? And can you source the track pins/spikes in the UK?

Having been pricing up home made track, I still cant beat the price of just buying Peco.

Love the trick with the ball ended punch. Last gasket I made was done on a laser cutter, but I have since moved jobs and no longer have access to it.

For me the appeal is for a railway that wends its way through the garden and being a part of the garden, whilst not taking over the garden. Mine, still in the planning stage will have to negotiate the garden pretty much as it is, whilst giving some shape to the long neglected flower beds. I suppose ...

Re: Make your own rails

I would like to investigate the possibility of making my own track, actually fixing individual rails to bits of wood. can't be that difficult surely?  But where to buy the actual rails, does anyone know of a supplier of the bare rails? Handlaying rail on real wood ties is an easy task. I use Switch...

Maybe one day I will have home grown track!
Having looked at the possibility of home made track I think this is the way I shall go too.

The trouble with tensator motors as you describe, is that they just stop without warning rather than running down and getting slower. Other than that it's an excellent idea. The original Baygen wind up radio used one, as did some WW2 ships chronometers.

Re: Distilled Water

I have a condensing tumble drier and I run the water through some old coffee filter paper to remove fluff and similar. Regards Andrew McMahon Try drinking it, and then ask yourself whether you are happy putting it in a boiler! I have tried this, it's disgusting, full of detergent residue and fabric...
