Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

Initial tests show that it runs as smooth as it ever did, the motor is the original. I intend to use Eneloop NiMh batteries. My long term plans are to get rid of the accucraft worm drive. Worm drives are always less than 50% efficient. That means you are getting less than 50% of the tractive effort,...

Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

I have relocated the motor and changed the rubber coupling for a metal universal joint. The air filter thingy on the bonnet top now doubles as an on/off switch.

Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

Thanks. Just tested the running chassis on a 12V Lead acid battery perched on the chassis.. A little slow for full speed but very powerful. Then a screw fell out of the coupling rods and it jammed up and broke the rubber motor coupling. I shall order a 12V motor off Como drills and run it on 8 NiMh ...

Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

I have relocated the motor from it's usual position slanting up into the engine compartment, to below the frames. Why they chose not to put it there in the first place I can't understand, it's so much neater there. So I now have lots of space for batteries under the bonnet. The motor is the original...

There are a lot of cheap rip-offs of these chargers, best to buy from a reputable dealer who offers a money back guarantee.

Accucraft Baguley

I am currently converting an Accucraft Baguley (later type) to battery RC. I need to remove the cranks, can anyone tell me what size of allen key I need to remove the little screws that hold the cranks to the axles?

Gralyn wrote: Thu Aug 24, 2017 9:08 am Isn't the anti vacuum valve (snifting valve?) in the live steam line after the regulator and the top up valve only in the boiler before the regulator?.
Nope, one is on the boiler the other is on top of the sight glass fitting.

Top up valves and anti-vacuum valves.

I have a Cheddar Samson with a top up valve and an anti vacuum valve, now both of these do the same job; they let stuff in and don't let stuff out.

So why do you need both? Surely a anti vacuum valve could be made to allow filling through it?

Are the 32mm wheels available?
Nope! I have driven the axles out and will fit longer ones.

Silk purse out of a pig's ear?

I have an elderly Mamod loco, it arrived with rather nice replacement wheels an aftermarket in-cab steam valve and a ludicrously dangerous home made gas burner. Say £150. £80 new Bix burner, sight glass blew. £5 new sight glass and seals. £5 and again. Rince and repeat. Boiler sprang leak, bottom ho...

New boilers for SL-standard Mamods? Yes -try Roy Wood Models. He does his copper Janet boilers as spares too. I have had pleasure of a couple from him in my time and they work very nicely. Just bought one, not fitted yet, it's a beautiful piece of work. I believe he's the last supplier of copper bo...

Re: water level glass

That stupid piece of plastic spoils the whole Mamod range for me. It's a bad design; Difficult to actually see through, difficult to seal and any plastic used for the window, will be operating close to its softening point, I have tried several. I will be using pyrex (borosilicate) glass when the nex...

Change of plan. I'm going to dell the carriages and the tender and keep the loco.

Mamod rolling stock gauge change. 32 to 45

I run a 45mm gauge track as at least one of my other locos is 45mm only. So I am in the process of re-gauging the Mamod and fitting a silver soldered boiler whilst I am at it. I acquired a tender which was obviously designed to be re-gaugeable by just unclipping two little rubber bands holding the b...

Re: blue rail control units

This is the way that a lot of RC is going for small drones and cars. Of course being the silly boy that I am I bought a windows phone and no one does apps for window phones. :( I am much more interested in making (live steam) locos run autonomously, so that they obey signals, and know what speed to ...
