Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library

The PLR must be the busiest light railway in Britain. I need to buy shares - they must be skyrocketing.

Good one again Rik.

Re: Question on Porter and Bell manufacture locos.

No idea about that one, it's not an error message I've ever seen online. I used the site heavily and downloaded photos when I was researching prototype info for the Climax loco rebuild, but that didn't appear to worry the site. Most of the vagaries of the internet pass me by at height with a loud '...

Re: Question on Porter and Bell manufacture locos.

Thanks Graeme for the quick response.
looks like I can indulge my idea of outside frames with connecting rods and no visible cylinders.

BTW I cannot access the gearedsteam website as it gives me a great big red warning that I have (somehow) infringed their copyright.

Question on Porter and Bell manufacture locos.

I am trying to find a small 0-4-0 STEAM loco to model with a recently purchased loco block – from a Bachmann centre cab diesel. bachmann centrecab motor block (1a).JPG It will not be a true model – I am just after ‘ideas’. It will have to be an outside frame type and I would prefer it to have inside...

Superb modelling as usual Peter.
I don't envy the driver NOT under that half cab roof though. I guess all a man needs is a cap.

Re: The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

Thats really great Greg. The selective close up shots completely disguise the actual size of the layout and the mind assumes it to be much larger than it really is. Thanks Rik and Philip. I was really just trying out different camera angles - not easy to hide the rest of the shed! But I found that ...

Re: Small, low-sided, 4-wheel wagons for indoor line.

They don't come simpler than that Gregh and they look just fine. I'm amazed how much you manage to fit in to such a limited space and still make it look right. Thanks Peter - the camera does lie sometimes. They look spot on! Where are the sacks from? Rik I could say "from Pauline's Pottery&quo...

Small, low-sided, 4-wheel wagons for indoor line.

When planning the indoor line, I wanted to use existing wagons and locos from the garden line. They do work ok but look a bit too large, so I have built 3 smaller wagons for the transportation of the clay. These are just low sided flat wagons. flat wagons compare.JPG The frame is 8mm pine, the floor...

coupling with magnets on chains

A couple of recent topics here have dealt with magnetic couplings: https://gardenrails.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14133&p=171450&hilit=magnetic#p171450 https://gardenrails.org/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=14135&p=171457&hilit=magnetic+coupling#p171457 and they re-kindled my interest. I ...

Re: The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

Just a heads-up. Some may have got a ' page does not exist ' message when trying to see the video. I did this morning! Turns out that when I created the new Channel I did not authenticate who I am. After much searching the web, I found that Youtube NOW requires this step to ensure I am not a robot. ...

Re: The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

I'll just add a quick "me too" to the others comments! Nice to see how the finished (?!) layout has really come together. Thanks. Yes, it's not really finished. Still plenty of small details to add, and more wagons to build, some better lighting, some backscenes not quite right yet etc et...

Re: The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

When you mentioned the 8 inch loco limit in your video, it occurred to me that mine is around 7, so it might be a good fit. It's mostly 3D printed and I've been working on cleaning up the designs to share... hopefully soon it'll be easy enough for you to get one! I designed it for 32mm but I'll see...

The Claymine Branch - tiny indoor G gauge

I have been documenting my construction of a 6'x 8' indoor G gauge line in a separate topic here. https://gardenrails.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=14092 Now that it is complete, I have started a new youtube channel, separate to my usual Sandstone and Termite, for all future videos. Here's the link t...

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout

Very inspirational Greg. It has now gotten me thinking about pulling up my HO layout that has not been touched for over 2 years. I am planning some storage tracks in the part of the shed where it is but I am now thinking a small branch line off the line coming in to the shed. I have a rocky river b...

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library

Great stuff Rik. One minute per month is a brilliant idea. As Peter said, there are some dedicated travelers on the PLR. Your camera is really good - I liked the shot at Peckforton as the diesel trundled past and the cab interior was in focus as well as the background train pulling into the station....

Re: A tiny G gauge indoor layout

My last post back in May described the farmland backscene on the north wall of the layout. I have now finished the west and south backscenes, which completes the whole “wallpaper”. This time I wanted a town and ‘mine’ scene for the location of “Claymine” – the source of the clay for the pottery work...

Reopening of the heritage Zig Zag railway.

The ZZR is about 100 miles west of Sydney NSW, in the Blue Mountains. The line was built in the 1860s and superseded by a new line around 1915. The track bed lay abandoned till the 1970s (I remember driving along part of it in the 1960s) then resurrected by volunteers using Queensland 3’-6”gauge sto...
