Re: Learning how to 3D print loco parts
Here is this weeks update Hi Philip - Yes I would reccomend getting hold of one if you have the patience to learn it (but if you had the patience to build a garden railway you should be fine!!) there are lots of youtube videos for learning and plenty of free software out there - my machine is a Quid...

Re: The Charnwood Forest Light Railway
Hi Andrew Congratulations on your track laying and what an amazing job! It looks fantastic. You must be thrilled to see railway amongst your building work :) The tunnel reminds me of one of the Welsh Highland tunnels - the clearance will be fine I would think, those Swift Sixteen coaches are lovely ...

Learning how to 3D print loco parts
Since i started building my railway, I have been enjoying learning new skills building locos and stock as well as the building work in the garden. It seemed logical to try out 3D printing to make parts. There are only a couple of problems, firstly 3D printers are very expensive and secondly, I have ...

Re: Staple Hill Railway - New Line
I seem to be cursed this year with railway building - I either have awful weather on every day off work or if its warm, my back plays up and I can't work. Anyway, a few little jobs have been done and my other workshop based projects are coming along so I guess I mustn't grumble. I have updated a few...

Re: New build Tram loco
The Tram has been gathering dust at the back of the bench while I built the Kerr Stuart Loco....with appalling weather and no garden progress I decided to progress the tram a little. A step closer to being run and Rik....I too regards the W & U honorary narrow gauge....always should have been bu...

As usual Rik, lovely job on that sound - another brilliant video. I really like the realism of your line - it looks like it's been there forever

Re: Staple Hill Railway - New Line
Hi Everyone. Time for another little update from Devon. As usual, I have not had as much time to work on the line as I would have liked but things are progressing a little and planning for the last stage of the extension is underway, in fact, blockwork has also started: A little line side hut has ap...

Re: Rechargeable batteries
Hi JIm I agree with Tom, I have had very mixed results with those adapters - particularly if they are bouncing around inside a loco. You can get some very reasonably priced batteries from Ebay, Amazon, CPC or Rapid Electronics. If you really want to use AA size, the actual holders cost pence. If you...

Re: New Millie
Loved the video - nicely made little film. The loco does look great, you've got a handle on her. So, is she staying shiny or are you going to weather her?
Cheers

Re: New Millie
Hi - thanks for that - I actually have got one from James in Devon who did a great job of building it into a coal truck and it has been INVALUABLE in reigning the maroon monster in - for the time being, it will become her tender!! I'll get some video up over Easter of the beast in action! With some...

Re: New Millie
Congratulations on your new loco - she looks lovey and I'm very happy for you. Don't get disheartened if she's being a little tricky....it takes time to run her in and get used to her little quirks and character - every steam loco is different. I use normal furniture polish on my locos - (except my ...

Re: New loco build - Kerr Stuart
Hi Guys I have got some more done on the loco and had a really good test run - video below! :D The hardest part this week was to get all the electronics fitted but its done and works well, I am over the moon with the ACME 2 stroke sound card. Here are a few pictures: Start of the exhaust: https://c1...

Re: New loco build - Kerr Stuart
I agree with the above, plati-weld / contacta are best. I do use a little superglue for adding any small metal or wood parts
Cheers for the comments guys

Re: New loco build - Kerr Stuart
Gents - what thickness generally do you use for building locos - I guess the chassis may have a more heavyweight thickness than other areas of the body? Armed with your responses, you'll be able to spot me at Peterborough carrying unfeasible amounts of sheeting around! 8) Hey Mark This loco has 2mm...

Re: New loco build - Kerr Stuart
That looks magnificent! I wish my first efforts (and even some of my more recent ones) looked half as good as that. Is she 4wd? I found adding chain drive to power both axles made a heck of a difference to my Simplex - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gVYGVcHGw0 Rik Thanks Rik - when I said in my e...

Re: New loco build - Kerr Stuart
She's a real stunner! You have made a plain and simple design look interesting and attractive. The rivet detailing was well worth the effort. Question...... please explain how you have made 16 AA batteries put out only 12v? Even rechargeable batteries (1.2v each) would make 19.2v, but that's OK if ...
