Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Hello all, With the track more-or-less clear and a couple of coal wagons needing a test run, yesterday seemed like an opportunity to run a train. The coal wagons, a bogie open and the ex-FR brake were duly assembled at Trefechan: Wagons waiting 1.jpg The plan was to steam Baldwin 590 and so to run a...

Thanks guys for your welcome compliments.. :thumbright: My head is turning now with Derek & Rik’s comments…..Oh what to do….   You know what to do! I agree, that lovely little model need to run... Glad to see that the house-moving chaos has reduced enough to allow fo...

Re: Two Dogs Railway

That looks fantastic, and will look even better once the periwinkle takes hold. Your use of "found" materials gives your line a sort of "organic" realism that's very unusual and which I really like - looking forward to seeing the trains running over it...

All the best,

Andrew.

Re: Smokey Sophie - A Roundhouse/Riverdale Amy coal fire build

Looking good! That Charles is a lovely engine, but looks positively toy-like compared to your loco.

Nice-looking line too, I like the canal boat - I shall enjoy watching the video when I have a little more time...

Cheers,

Andrew.

That's looking great, you've got it running really smoothly. I must get my Bertie out for a run soon...

Re: PLR - This weekend's operating session

The PLR's looking wonderful Rik - I can't imagine how much time you must have to spend maintaining it all in that lovely condition. I love all the rolling stock, but especially the work-stained but not decrepit goods wagons and that hugely characterful little half-cab saddle tank. Great sound effect...

Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway

Fitting a SSP Slomo is easy and Terry does plently of videos of how to fit them on YouTube. If I can fit one anyone can! Ah, but you successfully built your own kit loco Tom, which puts you in a different league from me. When I repainted the rods on my RH Bertie I made such a hash of putting it bac...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Yes, I think you're right - I spend too much time making (and thinking about making) models as it is, I don't think anyone would really benefit from me doing any more of it, least of all me... Very happy to describe the slate wagon build though, just give me a while to get hold of some of the materi...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Good afternoon! After at least 18 months without any meaningful activity, this afternoon the (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland spluttered back to life. West Kent Light Railway No 3, Daisy, did the honours, raising steam in the afternoon sunshine at Clarach: Daisy raising steam.jpg After a few stops to ...

Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway

Great video, really realistic, and your line continues to have an atmosphere all of its own. I do like those IoM 4-wheelers - the new E van would look great in one of your mixed trains I reckon... You get such a good quality of running with your Slomos. Inspired by your videos I'm saving towards pur...

Re: Vale of Fairway

I've been away too long! Your railway's changed scale, and is looking absolutely fantastic. I need to read the thread more fully, but a quick skim's rewarded me with pictures of characterful buildings (I must have a go at some myself...), and some lovely rolling stock. I do find the bucolic world of...

Re: Roundhouse Lilla visits Summerlands

Its a Hunslet - what's not to like about it! On my wish list - deffo my next live steamer Me too! In lined Cilgwyn Quarry green... It's a vaguely plausible "what if" for my WHR-themed line - ie what if it had had an accident being lowered down the incline at Bryngwyn on its way to Penryhn...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Hi Rod, Glad you like the wagons. The wooden bodied ones I made a few years ago, with the iron slate wagon being the current project. I'm building 5, which are all to make up the numbers in my WHR/FR slate train, so there won't be any spare to sell. That said, I'm always wondering "what if"...

Re: Wellington arrives at CHLR

Congratulations, that loco's a beauty! I'm not much of an engineer, but I must admit I'm tempted - slate wagons kind of need a quarry Hunslet to pull them... And if they continued their Ffestiniog range with an England I think I'd be even more tempted... Any idea of how powerful it is? Well done on ...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Good afternoon! Last night I added Binnie running gear to the first of my new Ffestiniog slate wagons, so thought I'd better give it a test run this evening. I didn't use the whole line, just a part of Penlan Bank, but it seemed to work pretty well, even without adding any weight. Propelling's a bit...

Beautiful bikes! I'm not technically a cyclist either, in that I don't currently cycle anywhere, but I reckon I've got a cyclist's heart... My late father used to race for an East London club (in the early 60s, I'd guess), I've got great b&w photos of him, including one with a classic London bus...

Re: CRANE FOR FWLR

I love that photograph of the quirky FR crane, it looks a bit top heavy to be safe on those raised turntable mounts. Might it have ever worked in this configuration? What would be its power source .... manual or IC? I'd guess manual, can't see any sort of i/c engine, but then I can't see where you'...
