Re: A Garage For FWLR

Enlighten me please on Edward Hopper.... EH was an American painter in the first half of the 20th Century, lots of isolated figures looking lost and lonely in big cities etc - see https://www.edwardhopper.net/ The atmospheric pools of light you've created in your garage, and your little c...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

I've already taken over too many of the house's shelves! I'm trying to get stuff out of the house and into the storage area underneath it, but that's a little dusty and unpleasant, so although it's fully shelved under there (with some real heavy duty stuff that was being ditched at work) the carriag...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Eeek! Although I'm guessing that was a problem with the paint going soft, rather than the bubblewrap itself - if the paint softens I guess anything an item of rolling stock's wrapped in will leave a mark... Thanks for the info - more thought for thought... I may investigate cyrogenic technology for ...

Dunno, but I was amused that it's listed as being in immaculate condition!

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

My wife wants to know why I was wearing a dress on the day Daisy drew my portrait. Good question - I wouldn't want to get steam oil on my best frock, must have been artistic license on her part.

Re: Andrew and the Chocolate Factory

Hi Andrew, I can offer you this 3 pin connector (M/F) pre-wired with 30cm wire between. I think they are Futaba connectors but unsure. I use them in all of my RC locos and they work just fine. Anyway, I bought them as a pack of fifty so have one for you if you wish. Just send a PM with your address...

Re: Binnie Carmarthen Couplings

Hello! Binnie's Carmarthen couplings are pretty much my standard type - the "bumper" type for slate wagons etc, and the "medium" (I think) for freelance wagons. I cut the hooks off, turn them upside down and add a new one. That's partly because they're less fussy-looking that way...

Snap! I fear my food hygiene standards aren't what they should be! I can sometimes get away with keeping the stuff in the fridge if it's in a sealed jam jar...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway

Excellent, thanks Philip! What thickness did you purchase? Cheers, Andrew. Andrew, My apologies, I missed this question from a couple of weeks ago. I used 100lb breaking strain, which is 0.55mm ( so it says). I picked that because I wasn't sure what it really needed and I thought better safe than s...

How do you get permission to have some track laid out on the dining table... My wife's away for the weekend!!! That's also how I got away with plonking this horrible old vice (possibly originally my Great-Grandfather's) on the table AND pinching the spice pot in the foreground... Vice.jpg The...

No much to report outdoors at the moment, and progress indoors has been impeded by an urgent need to tidy the house - including my train stuff. I thought you might be amused/horrified to see the cupboard which acts as my store and where everything that's made for the line starts its life... Here goe...

Re: Tom's station building

The doorknob on this one's a pin pinched from the sewing drawer. There's a name for them I think, but I've forgotten what it it... No, no plans to add lighting Rod, I wouldn't inflict my electrics on Tom! The roof will be removable though, so the inside could be detailed and illuminated at a later d...

Good afternoon! A little free time this morning saw me out in the garden with the simplest of trains - a battery loco and three Big Big train tippers: Tipper test 1.jpg Tipper testing 2.jpg Apart from just being a nice way to spend 10 minutes, the purpose of the run was to test how well the wagons r...

Re: Andrew and the Chocolate Factory

Hello! This morning I made a start on the Sentinel loco which will pull the train. The real thing is nearly finished now and should be complete at the Avon Valley at Easter. Mine is lagging behind, but I've now got the frames and running plate sorted so I can build up from there... It's quite happil...

I don't expect you to paint it as well though so send it on when you are happy and I will finish it. If you really must paint it yellow though for kicks do it once and then undercoat it in another colour please! If I did it would be for my benefit, not the kids! How have you done the shiplap cladding? I cheated! It's moulded sheet, I purchased it from Glendale Junction who very helpfully cut the sheet in half for me to keep postage costs down. Re: Tom's station building

My wife's away this weekend, so the kitchen table's covered in tools, materials and half-finished models, and the air stinks of glue - it's a glimpse of the chaos I'd live in if I wasn't married. The upside of all this chaos is that I'm getting some modelling done - starting with Tom's building. Yes...
